Position Overview

Position Summary
The Career Services Coordinator supports students in career planning and job preparation. Reporting to the Director of Career Services, this role involves advising students, coordinating internships, and staying informed about employment trends. The coordinator also connects students with campus and community resources to help them achieve their career goals.


Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide career planning services to help students define goals and explore job opportunities using various communication methods.
  • Plan and update career development activities to help students explore career, education and certification opportunities, connects recent graduates with job leads, and ensures students have a documented career plan prior to program completion.
  • Guide students through career assessments and planning, support resume building, job applications, and interview preparation, and connect them with internships, externships, or job shadowing opportunities.
  • Participate in annual commencement ceremony, as well as ongoing training and cross-training to maintain a strong understanding of university programs, curriculum, graduation requirements, policies, and available students' resources and services.
  • Collaborate with instructors to track information and share best practices for building and maintaining partnerships with businesses and community organizations to support clinicals, internships, externships, and job shadowing opportunities.
  • Serve on university committees and task forces as needed and collaborate with faculty and staff to develop student-centered processes and support departmental goals and objectives.
  • Develop and strengthen relationships and partnerships with community leaders, including businesses, non-profit organization, and high schools to create internship opportunities that support r student success and real-world.
  • Plan and implement an annual on-campus and/or virtual career fair.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in counseling or a related field.
  • Two years' higher education experience, preferably to include recruitment and career interest assessment/advising.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of university policies, academic programs, and student requirements, with the ability to interpret and apply them accurately.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other standard office technologies and equipment.
  • Understanding of career advising, recruiting, job placement techniques, and certification or assessment tools used in student career planning.
  • Knowledge of tools used for student interest and personality type and the ability to interpret results of such tools to assist students in making sound decisions.
  • Strong skills in evaluating student goals and help them develop clear, achievable career plans. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner.
  • Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain professionalism in challenging situations.
  • Strong multitasking and organizing abilities, with attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively contributing to team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to make sound decisions using independent judgement.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, students and the public.

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed during normal work hours but will require some evening and weekend hours on occasion.
  • Position requires traveling within the region to contact and establish partnerships with prospective employers.
  • Position requires light work with 20 pounds maximum weight to lift and carrywith or without accommodations.
  • Position requires reaching, handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeingwith or without accommodations.
  • Position requires ability to circumnavigate campus with or without accommodations.
