About This Opportunity

JOB TITLE: Separator Operator
POSITION TYPE: Full time
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

* Starting pay is $24.81 per hour, with an increase to $29.19 per hour upon successful completion of a 60-day probationary period.
* An additional $2.00 per hour shift premium applies to hours worked between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM.

Available Opening:
* For the first six months, coverage is needed for the Separator Operator position. The primary shift will be days (6:00AM - 6:00PM), with occasional night shift coverage as required, based on seniority.
* After the initial six-month period, coverage for the Separator Operator role will conclude. At that time, the employee may sign into any available posting or transition to a packaging role. Please note: day shift is not guaranteed. Pay will be determined based the position the employee is assigned to.
* Weekends and holidays scheduled on a rotating basis.

Our facility is located at 1815 West Spencer Street, Appleton, WI 54914

Operates and monitors separators, clarifiers, and reverse osmosis units which removes butterfat from various fluid dairy products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates, monitors and CIP's (clean in place) whey separators, clarifier, ROUF, plate heat exchanger and polisher and assists in the periodic teardown of equipment.

  • Performs the appropriate piping/equipment hook-ups to prepare separator equipment for cleaning or production.

  • Performs appropriate lab testing to ensure maximum efficiencies are met, and if testing is out of specification, notify Supervisor immediately.

  • Assembles piping and conduct tank washing in the separator department by using the appropriate clean in place (CIP) system.

  • Ensures quality and food safety best practices are applied during work operation.

  • Properly documents test results in system for equipment optimization and quality control.

  • Performs environmental sanitation duties in the department according to the frequency stated on the Master Sanitation Schedule to comply with regulatory standards.

  • This position is responsible for the proper operation and control of a plant critical control point (CCP).

  • Assists RO/UF Clean Up with the changing of membranes as determined by the preventative maintenance schedule.

  • Assists in Blend A preparation.

  • Assists maintenance and contractors with taking apart, inspecting, and reassembling the HTSTs.

  • Assist with Job Safety Analysis and On-the-Job training existing and new employees.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
