Works under general direction of licensed medical practitioner to provide athletic trainer and clinical support skills in sports medicine and orthopedic practice.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required



  • Education
    Master's Degree Master of Science in Athletic Training or Sports Medicine from an accredited program or equivalent related health degree.


  • Experience
    2 years experience as an athletic trainer required.


  • Licenses and Certifications
    (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT
    (ATC) Athletic Trainer Certificaton board certification and State of Texas license required.


Preferred



  • Experience
    Working experience with a sports team or in an outpatient setting preferred.


  • Licenses and Certifications
    (OTC) ORTHOPEDIC TECHNICN CERTFICATN


JOB DUTIES



  • Supervise, mentor, and/or serve as a preceptor to other Athletic Trainers or Athletic Trainer students
  • Supports quality and process improvement projects within their practice, in collaboration with clinical leadership.
  • Review lab results, x-rays, and MRI/CT results and report findings to provider.
  • Patient intake and rooming.
  • Within scope of role and training, obtain patient history, perform patient triage and physical assessment for athletic injuries, and report findings to provider.
  • Document in electronic health record.
  • Assist with patient calls or questions related to athletic injuries and related orthopedic care of patients.
  • Under the supervision of a provider, examine and provide appropriate therapeutic interventions for athletic and orthopedic injuries and conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities.
  • Provide patient education to include preventative, pre-operative, and post-operative education and care to appropriate population(s).
  • Enter surgical case requests and phase of care orders into medical record in collaboration with/based on provider direction.
  • Provide standard pre-admission and pre-operative instructions for patients having surgery.
  • Apply, adjust, and remove casts.
  • Perform post-operative care for appropriate population(s) to include, but not limited to: suture, staple, Steinman pin, and K-wire removal, and wound care.
  • Collaborate with provider to determine appropriate treatment plan.
  • Place orders for imaging and lab diagnostics as directed by provider.
  • Discuss abnormal test results with patient, as directed by provider.
  • Handle and prepare medications specific to joint injections to be administered by a provider.
  • Place orders for referrals, bracing, and/or physical therapy as directed by provider.
  • Place orders for equipment and supplies and provide durable medical equipment (DME) services as directed by provider.
  • Measure and fit patients for braces and other orthopedic equipment.
  • Schedule patient appointments in electronic medical record.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
