Position Title: Accountant 2

Reporting Manager Title: Accounting Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze expenses paid by organization and manage the prepaid process to align with proper Accounting Guidelines and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

  • Support the Corporate Fixed Assets process to include understanding of guidelines and acceptable assets lives in accordance with GAAP principles.
  • Validate that all key reconciliations and month end processing is complete prior to the posting of any financial reporting information. Review all equity, asset and liabilities accounts and the monthly financial information for accuracy and giving enhanced integrity to the financial reports.
  • Prepare reconciliation of general ledger accounts as well as third party statements to general ledger. Third party statements include core system, shared branching, credit card processor, official check/money order vendor and other third party operations. Make recommendations to managers on posting errors or employee issues. Reconciliations should be completed monthly and on a timely basis each month. Resolve all outstanding items in compliance with reconciliation procedures. Any compliance issues will be documented and should be reported to management.
  • Prepare reconciliation of credit union internal accounts Make recommendations to managers on posting errors or employee issues.   • Manage reconciliation approvals through reconciliation system. Prepare and distribute weekly dashboards to reflect current reconciliation status.
  • Partner with operational departments and lines of business to maintain and keep reconciliations clean in order to minimize impact to members and member's accounts. Make recommendation to management of any procedure violations that are not cured within 60 days.
  • Serves as coach or mentor for colleagues

Minimum Qualifications:

(Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Essential education-

Degree in Accounting or Business from an accredited university or equivalent mix of education and experience is required. Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) preferred.

Essential experience-

Three (3) to Five (5) years of similar or closely related work experience. Demonstrated success in professional Accounting, Financial Reporting and/or decision support. Experience in the public accounting environment is preferred. Knowledge of GAAP, internal controls and financial reporting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong interpersonal communication skills and strategic and creative thinking abilities. Assumes responsibility for achieving results. Working knowledge of GAAP and regulatory accounting requirements as they pertain to financial institutions. Passion for accuracy. Serves as a resource to members, prospective members, and employees. Continually learns and stays current trends in the marketplace. Builds collaborative and productive relationships in the branch. Demonstrates effective time management. Strong working knowledge of relevant software including Microsoft Office, Word and Excel. Experience with Blackline strongly preferred.

While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to stand, walk, and sit. An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds to perform essential position functions.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

This position may require travel up to 10% of the time based on business needs.
