A Brief Overview

The HR Shared Service Specialist will work as part of a team providing support employees, leaders and other HR functions in providing knowledgeable and efficient solutions that drive operational excellence and business results.

What You Will Do



  • Acts as first level support for employees in the resolution of a variety of HR-related topics. Administers support through call center operations, email and case management technology within established timeframes. Researching and resolving technical and functional issues.
  • Escalates complex issues to internal Total Rewards team members, appropriate HR functions and business partners, Payroll, IT, HRIS or external vendors to ensure appropriate and efficient resolution of inquiries.
  • Maintains employee data by updating employee records in Oracle and managing employee files.
  • Monitors the HR Shared Services and HR Benefits shared e-mail boxes, cases submitted through the HR Benefits Portal, submitted by IT and voice mails and follows up for completion.
  • Collaborates with the Manager, HR Shared Services and benefits team to support annual open enrollment, benefit updates and/or employee wellness initiatives. This includes but is not limited to assisting with new benefit plan implementations, preparing communications, and providing education to customers.
  • Creates badges for New Hires/Transfers and Vendors.
  • Educates employees on employment status changes, general benefit plan offerings and electronic benefit enrollment procedures.
  • Provides reporting and analytical support for weekly and annual audits, case management and error resolution activities.
  • Assists and encourages users to make effective use of HR self-service technology, outside vendors or other resources as appropriate.
  • Works with vendors to address escalated concerns and inquiries from employees and managers.
  • Participates in process improvement initiatives, including testing and documentation of change efforts.

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
