Java Backend Engineer

About The Role

We are seeking a Java Backend Developer to join our backend integration team. This team is responsible for building and maintaining robust backend systems that support integrations between a CRM application and various downstream systems. You'll play a key role in developing services that handle both internal and external data exchanges, as well as managing secure and efficient file processing workflows from customers and merchants.

How you'll make an impact

  • Responsible for providing technical leadership to moderate and large cross functional development efforts.

  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to identify business opportunities and solve business problems.

  • Responsible for providing high level assessments of development efforts.

  • Responsible for designing, developing, and testing solutions for projects of moderate to significant complexity.

  • Responsible for building and executing against a detailed development schedule.

  • Responsible for monitoring the efforts of more junior developers and contracted staff.

  • Responsible for producing project related artifacts and ensuring development efforts conform to standards.

  • Collaborates with the team to identify improvements and upgrades that will reduce cost, improve stability, and increase performance.

  • Responsible for engaging with production support staff and remediating chronic and/or critical production support issues.

  • Responsible for training and mentoring more junior or new staff.

Experience you'll bring

  • Minimum 4 year technical/information science degree.

  • Minimum 4 years+ experience with systems integration domain.

  • Advanced understanding and use of Java: JNDI, JMX, JMS, Web Services, XML parsing, class loading, reflection etc.

  • Extensive experience with Java Message Service (JMS.)

  • Experience with WebLogic, or similar enterprise application servers.

  • Extensive experience with XML/XLST/XPath/XQuery.

  • Extensive experience with message transformations and integrations.

  • Knowledgeable in AWS product offerings, CloudFormations, Ansible, Jenkins, Artifactory.

  • Exposure to DevOps.

  • Experience in building, deploying, and supporting Java applications in J2EE/Linux environments.

  • Experience with an IDE tool such as Eclipse, or Intellij.

  • Strong SQL skills.

  • Experience with Hibernate or other ORM tool

  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodology.

  • Experience with Linux/Unix and Windows development environments.

  • Strong skills writing high-performance, multi-threaded, efficient and maintainable software code.

  • Experience with a full software development life cycle, including functional & technical specification, development (including object and component based design), documentation, QA processes, source control, deployments, and maintenance.

  • Must have the ability to accurately estimate future and remaining work effort, and meet aggressive software build schedules.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
