Job Summary

Overall Job Responsibility:

The individual will work at a UCSF Primary Care practice. The primary responsibility will be full time patient care (or parttime if arranged). The physician will be responsible for caring for patients of all ages. The full time clinical role requires 8 sessions (4 hour sessions) per week, with two additional administrative sessions weekly. There are productivity standards that must be met. The physician oversees the primary care of an assigned panel of patients, evaluation of patient history and physical findings, and efficient completion of medical records for all encounters, including asynchronous work via the patient portal, MyChart. The role requires physicians to alternatively sit, stand, perform diagnostic procedures, and communicate efficiently with staff, colleagues, patients and their family members. The individual will also have teaching responsibilities up to 50 hours per year. Administrative or quality contributions are important efforts that are encouraged.

Medical Directors of UCSF Primary Care practice and Chief, Division of General Internal Medicine (DGIM)

Duties:

A. Patient Care

  1. Provide primary medical care to adults for acute and chronic problems and preventative health needs. Engage in team-based primary care delivery and work within a team-let to provide care that is accessible, coordinated and comprehensive.
  1. Communicate and collaborate with consultants, ancillary care providers, and other members of the medical care team to optimize care coordination for patients in primary care panel.
  1. Communicate and consult with the inpatient hospital team in the care of primary care patients who are admitted to the medical or surgical services. Provide prompt, medically appropriate transition care for primary care panel patients discharged from the emergency room or inpatient setting.
  1. Provide on call coverage for after-hours phone advice.
  1. Complete medical records on all patient encounters consistent with Primary Care Services policies.
  2. Location of the position is in the clinical setting and occasionally by telehealth

B. Administrative
  1. Abide by policies of the UCSF Health medical staff and Primary Care Services.
  1. Participate in and share in leadership of continuous quality improvement efforts.
  1. Engage in robust citizenship and support of the practice.


C. Teaching
  1. Participate in medical student teaching, practice teaching and other learning which benefits patients, colleagues and professional clinical development.


D. Other
  1. In conjunction with other faculty members of DGIM, and with the approval of the division chief and the Practice medical director, the individual may carry out research and/or other creative work.
  1. Participate in Department, School of Medicine, Medical Center, University, and community activities as appropriate.
Guaranteed first year: $321k - base and clinical incentive
2nd+ year ability to earn base + clinical incentives + RVU

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Department Description

The Department of Medicine (DOM), the largest department in the School of Medicine (SOM), has 450 full-time faculty leading top-notch research, clinical, and education programs. The Department has a decentralized organizational structure across four sites (Parnassus, San Francisco General Hospital - SFGH, Veterans Affairs Medical Center - VAMC and Mt. Zion) and approximately 60 divisions. Authority and accountability for the Department rests with the Department Chair who heads the Parnassus and Mt. Zion sites, and also directs the Vice Chairs at the SFGH and VAMC sites.

Required Qualifications

Eligible individuals should have completed an accredited internal medicine residency program, be board certified or eligible in Internal Medicine, and possess a valid license to practice medicine in the State of California.

Preferred Qualifications

An interest in teaching medical school students and previous practice experience is desirable.
