Purpose of Position

The purpose of the Police Safety Supervisor is to ensure the safety, security, and operational integrity of facilities under the jurisdiction of the University of Texas System Administration. This role is responsible for enforcing rules and regulations, safeguarding property, and supporting the safety of employees, visitors, and assets within UT System-controlled buildings. The supervisor oversees building safety systems, coordinates maintenance and emergency preparedness, and ensures compliance with applicable safety standards. Additionally, the Police Safety Supervisor provides leadership and training to the Public Safety Officer division, ensuring high standards of service and professionalism. The role includes enforcing parking regulations on UT System property and serving as a key point of contact for safety-related concerns, contributing to a secure and welcoming environment for all occupants and guests.

Essential Functions

Building Operations & Safety Oversight

  • Monitor and maintain the safety, security, and operational readiness of UT System Administration facilities.
  • Patrol buildings and grounds to identify and address potential safety hazards, including fires, water leaks, suspicious activity, and emergencies.
  • Coordinate with Facilities Management and external vendors for maintenance, repairs, and safety upgrades.
  • Develop and implement emergency preparedness plans, including evacuation procedures and drills.
  • Ensure all personnel entering the System Complex or campus are properly identified; issue visitor badges and maintain accurate logs.

Policy Enforcement & Compliance

  • Enforce UT System rules, regulations, and policies related to building safety, security, and parking.
  • Evaluate safety practices and procedures to ensure compliance with university, state, and federal standards.
  • Develop and implement strategies to reduce crime and address safety concerns proactively.
  • Direct the flow of traffic and parking of vehicles; issue parking permits and citations as needed.

Public Safety Officer Supervision

  • Supervise the Public Safety Officer division, including assigning work schedules, resolving staffing issues, and addressing minor personnel conflicts.
  • Provide training, guidance, and performance oversight to ensure high standards of service and professionalism.
  • Conduct regular briefings and ensure officers are prepared for daily operations and emergency response.

Constituent Service & Community Engagement

  • Serve as a point of contact for employees, visitors, and contractors regarding safety concerns and building access.
  • Provide courteous and professional assistance, including directions and general information.
  • Promote a culture of safety, service, and accountability within the UT System Building.

Incident Response & Documentation

  • Respond promptly to alarms, incidents, and emergencies, coordinating with law enforcement and emergency services as needed.
  • Write detailed reports on incidents occurring on campus or within the System Complex.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety checks, visitor logs, and enforcement actions.

Other Duties

  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the safety and operational goals of the UT System Police Department.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated understanding of public safety, building operations, and facility security standards, including emergency preparedness, access control, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven ability to lead, train, and supervise a team of public safety officers.
  • Skilled in scheduling, conflict resolution, and performance management to ensure effective team operations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with audiences, including staff, visitors, contractors, and law enforcement.
  • Skilled in writing detailed reports and delivering safety briefings.
  • Capable of assessing complex safety situations, identifying risks, and implementing effective solutions under pressure.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment in both routine and emergency scenarios.
  • Committed to providing courteous and helpful service to employees and visitors, fostering a welcoming and secure environment.
  • Familiarity with security systems, surveillance technology, and incident reporting tools.
  • Ability to learn and apply new technologies relevant to building safety and operations.
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree, OR
    Associate's Degree and 2 Years of experience, OR
    HS Diploma or GED and 4 Years of experience
  • Valid Texas Driver's License-Required for operating department vehicles; must maintain a good driving record.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Six years of experience as a Public Safety Officer with the U.T. System Administration or an institution police department.
  • CPR / First Aid Certification-Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and basic first aid, required for emergency response readiness.
Working Conditions

  • Driving of UT owned vehicle required.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to a minimum of 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. Participation in TRS is mandatory.

A background check will be conducted on candidates under final consideration. The background check may include any or all of the following: criminal history check, prior employment verification, education verification, professional references check, and motor vehicle records check. Background checks are conducted by third-party vendors. Upon request form the third-party vendor, candidates under final consideration must provide the required information for the background checks to be completed.
