Purpose of Position

To establish and maintain engineering design guidelines and review plans and specifications of all projects for compliance within building systems engineering disciplines.

Essential Functions

  • Provide engineering documentation and guidance to project managers and construction managers during the design and construction phases of projects.
  • Integrates technical processes, equipment, building types and best practices into OCP's basis of design & guideline documentation. Prepares and maintains OCP's engineering guideline specifications and design criteria for U. T. System projects.
  • By managing in-house and contract resources, review engineering plans and specifications for compliance with OCP's engineering specification and design criteria, institutional, applicable state and national requirements, State Energy Conservation Office (SECO) energy efficiency and water conservation requirements and Building & Life Safety code compliance.
  • Reviews engineering plans and specifications for compliance with regulatory agencies such as SECO, State Fire Marshal, TCEQ, TDLR, Texas Historical Commission, Texas Antiquities Committee, USFWS and Texas Board of Professional Engineers.
  • Confirms the overall design approach proposed by the A/E team is fit for purpose with the Institution's requirement. This may involve, but is not limited to, program participation and reviews of Life Cycle Cost Analyses.
  • Provides engineering consulting services to institutions and offices as directed.
  • Maintains knowledge of latest developments in engineering technology for products and services, including operational efficiencies and resilience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Group and individual communications skills with project participants of differing levels of technical knowledge.
  • Productive participation in problem solving sessions among designers, contractors, consultants, end-users and owners with differing perspectives.
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering and 10 years engineering experience with large academic, health or related field projects to include at least 2 years of management experience.
  • Registered professional engineer with the state of Texas required or attainable in 6 months.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering and 20 years engineering experience with large academic, health or related field projects to include at least 5 years of management experience.
  • Registered professional engineer with the state of Texas.

Additional Information

The standard retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. However, the incumbent of this position may elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. Participation in either TRS or ORP is mandatory.

A background check will be conducted on applicants under final consideration.
