The Access Engineer II is responsible for design, circuit writes, testing, turn up and troubleshooting Enterprise networks within Uniti Fiber. Position is focused primarily on Enterprise networks but also has some bleed over into other networks such as internal networks and some carrier work. Tiering levels are mainly based on experience and subject matter levels within gear and networks we work in.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Design customer circuits from end to end based on existing network transport elements.
- Develop customer solutions based on needs within the network that don't currently support and escalate those to backbone engineering for completion.
- Write circuits through the network and document the design and circuit write and attach to Salesforce for later troubleshooting efforts as a starting point if needed.
- Create BoM for each order for needed gear to complete turn up to make sure we have correct amount of stock on hand to move forward.
- Approve fiber path design for ISP to determine where the new customer network element will live within the network, so the design can be finalized and created.
- Develop network node element configurations for circuit and upload to Salesforce to get it loaded onto gear so it can be installed in the field.
- Create field tech dispatches to have gear installed for new customer circuits if needed and also to coordinate testing with techs.
- Work with techs onsite during customer turn ups to conduct testing of the new circuit and record testing results for birth record of circuit to prove circuit meets the customer order and preserve results in Salesforce.
- On failing tests, work with tech or other departments to isolate the issue causing the failure of circuit and work to resolve before turning over to customer.
- Reserve vlans and IPv4 public space and record them for customer circuits.
- Conduct SWIPs or RDNS entries into systems to properly record IPv4 public space with ARIN so we are in compliance with ARIN bylaws.
- Activate circuits once verified complete and intact into Salesforce so that billing can start on the new circuit.
- Conduct customer upgrades to existing circuits verifying capacity along the path.
- Take escalations from NOC for customer outage issues and problems and work them until resolve, whether this means they fix, or either identify and work with other groups to correct.
- Handles disconnects of circuits, which consist of removing the vlan(s) from the entire path, setting dispatch to remove and splice out the gear as well as marking the disco properly in Salesforce.
- Handles more complex issues and train others on how to solve the problems and how to properly design solutions based on complex needs of the customer.
