Overview

Element is hiring a SAR Engineer (2nd shift) to support our wireless device testing and certification services in Columbia, MD. Element is a leading test facility providing regulatory and conformance testing for wireless devices across global markets. We are seeking a SAR Engineer with hands-on experience in RF exposure testing who is ready to take the next step in their career. This role is ideal for an engineer who can independently execute tests, troubleshoot setup and device issues, and contribute to ongoing improvements in quality and efficiency. Responsibilities

    Plan and execute SAR and RF exposure compliance testing per FCC, ISED, EU, and other global regulatory standards
  • Independently set up test configurations, debug setup and device-related issues, and ensure proper probe calibration and verification
  • Analyze test data and produce accurate, well-documented technical reports using MS Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Review client documentation and evaluate applicable test requirements and regulatory paths
  • Assist in developing and refining test plans, procedures, and reporting templates to improve quality and throughput
  • Provide technical guidance to junior staff and interface with project managers and clients for status updates and clarifications
  • Maintain lab equipment, ensure regular calibrations, and support quality system requirements (e.g., ISO/IEC 17025)
  • Support occasional internal audits, root cause analyses, and cross-site harmonization initiatives


Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical or Bio Engineer, Computer Engineering, RF Engineering, Physics, or a related STEM field or commensurate with experience
  • 2-5 years of hands-on experience with SAR testing and RF exposure compliance in a lab environment
  • Strong understanding of RF test equipment (e.g., DASY systems, power meters, network analyzers, callboxes) and SAR-specific tools and protocols
  • Excellent technical writing and documentation skills, with experience preparing compliance reports
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot test issues independently and provide input on process improvements
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across engineering, project management, and quality teams
  • Ability to lift and handle equipment (up to 50 lbs occasionally) and perform physically active lab tasks
