The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for a Cabling Technician to support our government customer in Maui, Hawai'i.

The Cabling Technician is responsible for the installation, testing, maintenance, and documentation of Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) copper and fiber optic cabling in support of the MBSS IT contract. This position supports network operations, VoIP, and base communications infrastructure projects, ensuring continuity of communications for the 15th Space Surveillance Squadron (15 SpSS).

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Essential duties & job functions would include but are not limited to:

  • Perform installation, repair, and maintenance of ISP/OSP cabling infrastructure (fiber and copper) including conduit systems, handholes, manholes, and antenna transmission systems in accordance with BICSI and OEM standards.

  • Conduct end-to-end cable testing, labeling, documentation, and end point peripherals, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.

  • Support VoIP installations by testing cabling, mapping E-911 ports, and provisioning phones in the call manager.

  • Conduct Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) on handholes/manholes, documenting issues and updating the CVC database.

  • Complete emergency, priority, and routine end to end cable locate/staking/markings within timeframes outlined in the PWS.

  • Update and maintain cable records, work orders, and drawings using tools such as MS Visio, CIPS, and the EITSM ticketing system.

  • Participate in site surveys, design reviews, and provide technical solutions for cabling projects.

  • Perform GPS data collection and database updates for all underground and aerial infrastructure.

  • Maintain a current inventory of spare materials, tools, and test equipment and notify leadership of resupply needs.

  • Respond to outage notifications and trouble tickets, ensuring timely repair and restoration of service.

  • Maintain a safe work environment.

  • Mindful to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to write daily correspondence to the government customer.

  • Ability to understand and follow directions.

  • Ability to work cooperatively and safely with others on common projects.

  • Capable of performing physical labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces or elevated areas.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, as well as present training to small groups of employees.

  • Assigned other additional duties as required.

Environmental Factors: Works in indoor and outdoor environments that contain excessive heat, cold and humidity, excessive dampness, electrical energy, dust, fumes, solvents grease, oils, moving machinery with moving parts, moving object or vehicles and slippery or uneven surfaces. Routinely will be working at over 10,000ft elevation.

Physical Effort: Frequently lifts items and equipment weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and occasionally over fifty (50) pounds with a two man assist. Standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and stretching for prolonged periods will be necessary.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in commercial or government cable installation, preferably in military or DoD environments.

  • BICSI Installer II (OSP/ISP) Certification.

  • Security+ certification and ability to obtain DoD cybersecurity credentials.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Proficient in interpreting technical diagrams, blueprints, and specifications.

  • Skilled in use of cable testing and fusion splicing equipment.

  • Proficient in working with Microsoft Office Suit (TEAMs, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Familiarity with DoD risk management framework (RMF) and compliance processes.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • U.S. Military experience preferred.

  • Experience with CVC, CIPS, and EITSM systems.

  • Familiarity with DoD and Air Force communications infrastructure standards.

  • Previous experience with VOIP systems and E-911 compliance procedures.

  • Forklift Certification.

  • First Aid Certification.

  • OSHA 10/30 Certification.

  • Confined Space Certification.

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Must have ability to obtain a TOP SECRET security clearance.
