Engineering Student CO-OP (Advanced Technology Development)

Engineering CO-OP opportunity is at our research division (Kratos SRE) located in Birmingham, AL. The CO-OP requires a 3-semester commitment rotating working a semester then returning to school for a semester.

This posting is for 2 CO-OPs, one starting in Fall 2025 and one starting Summer 2026. The rotations would be as follows:

Rotation 1 Fall 2025 2024; Rotation 2 - Summer 2026; and Rotation 3 - Spring 2027

Rotation 1 - Spring 2026; Rotation 2 - Fall 2026; and Rotation 3 Summer 2027

COOPs support a department of engineers in test preparation and execution, data analysis, and data presentation. Students will also work in close cooperation with a variety of engineers, as well as laboratory and machine shop personnel, in order to accomplish tasks vital to the success of projects. Depending on the team assigned responsibilities may include:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:



  • Assessment of aerospace composites, ceramics, and alloys
  • Design of test hardware using solid modeling software.
  • Test preparation including drawings, text requests, and documentation.
  • Data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Laboratory test method development.
  • SOLIDWORKS design and modifications.
  • 3D printing support
  • Additive Manufacturing support
  • Prototyping support as well as computer programming and hardware integration activities.
  • Perform other duties and assist other employees, as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Qualifications



  • U. S. Citizen
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
  • Completed freshman year in engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics or other related field.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to work well with others in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Self-motivated to continually expand knowledge and skills related to this position.



Preferred Qualifications



  • Completed sophomore year in engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, or another related field.
  • Programming experience
  • Experience with additive manufacturing/3D printing
  • Completed physics I, calculus I, and mechanics of materials
