Job Overview:

The Central Supply Technician performs the daily activities involved with all aspects of decontamination, cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, assembly and surgical supplies and equipment distribution including but not limited to case carts function. The Central Supply Technician assists department supervisors in coordinating daily work levels to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency throughout all department functions.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Must attend hands-on in-service and seminars pertaining to the Central Sterile Processing department

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Must be certified by the IAHCSMM or the Sterile Processing board as mandated by the New Jersey State Department of Health
  • Must accrue CEUs to maintain current certification

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Day Shift
  • Per Diem Schedule

Essential Functions:

  • Identify & understand written data and be able to read and write alpha and numeric data accurately
  • Must be conscientious with regards to surgical procedures
  • Maintain adequate inventory for assembly of instruments
  • Perform multiple tasks that assist in the daily operation of all units as well as being responsible for customer service
  • Perform and participate in the decontamination and cleaning of all instrumentation received, which include but are not limited to instrumentation and equipment received from all units according to established standards and procedures
  • Prepare case carts and trays for decontamination and load them into washer and/or sterilizer as prescribed procedure
  • Perform the operation of the instrument washers, cart washers, ultrasonic cleaners as well as manually cleaning instruments and equipment as prescribed by established standards and procedures
  • Inspects all instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and breakage by viewing the instruments before assembly
  • Uses appropriate container, wrap or pouch according to the size of the instrument or equipment
  • Sterilizes instruments and surgical trays by following prescribed policies and procedures
  • Knows how to run tests on all sterilizers, monitor and document that all parameters have been met
  • Use chemicals in the appropriate fashion taking into consideration the intended use of chemical as well as its function: knowledge of appropriate PPE is also necessary
  • Participates in expediting the OR schedule by assisting the other members of the OR Team in obtaining the instruments/equipment necessary for the procedure in a timely manner
  • Assembles and distributes case carts accurately and in a timely manner
  • Assist SPD Supervisor with staff orientation, on the job training activities in the department
