As an Organized Research Unit of UC San Diego, the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) is considered a leader in data-intensive computing and cyberinfrastructure, providing resources, services, and expertise to the national research community, including industry and academia. Cyberinfrastructure refers to an accessible, integrated network of computer-based resources and expertise, focused on accelerating scientific inquiry and discovery. SDSC supports hundreds of multidisciplinary programs spanning a wide variety of domains, from earth sciences and biology to astrophysics, bioinformatics, and health IT. SDSC launched Comet, a petascale supercomputer that joins the Center's data-intensive Gordon cluster. SDSC is a partner in XSEDE (eXtreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment), the most advanced collection of integrated digital resources and services in the world. The Research Data Services (RDS) Division of SDSC is responsible for providing a full range of CI services funded by recharge, contracts and grants and state funds. Services provided by the division include: Co-Location facility; server hosting and management (Windows, Linux and Solaris); Microsoft and Virtualized Services, networking; desktop support services; and data storage. POSITION OVERVIEWThe Systems Integration Engineer 2 will apply professional systems and software integration concepts to evaluate, resolve and implement small to medium-sized projects or portions of larger projects. Resolves a variety of business processes, system functionality, implementation issues and system and software integration problems. Works on project assignments of moderate scope where analysis of systems or data requirements requires a review of a variety of factors. The Systems Integration Engineer will work in the Platform Services group at the San Diego Supercomputer Center on the development of middleware for information integration across different universities that connect to SDSC's services. Incumbent will work with very complex, advanced systems and networks in production, research and performance evaluation environments. Runs user codes to debug systems. Works with critical data systems to lead the effort to deliver a platform for computation, research and data sharing across the organization. Works closely with other groups to integrate systems into the SDSC networking, data mining and user environments. Collaborates on security procedure development and implementation. Works with the User Support and operations group in training their staff and planning system maintenance. QUALIFICATIONS
Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $69,500 - $123,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $33.29 - $59.15 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
