The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations. |
Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Emergency Medical Technician for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). This position works under the direct supervision of the Captain or his/her designee, provides emergency medical treatment at the scene and during transport to a medical facility.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Answers all calls for emergency medical treatment; drives ambulance to required location.
- Determines the nature and extent of injury and establishes priorities for and render emergency care.
- Prepares victims for transportation and cares for patient during trip to the appropriate
medical facility. - Provides doctor or nurse with an evaluation of the patient's condition.
- Prepares detailed report of incident; replaces supplies used and returns ambulance to ready status.
Provides non- emergency ambulance transportation of University personnel. - May provide mutual aid to neighboring municipalities during medical emergencies.
- Participates in the department's Rescue Taskforce program, attending training as directed.
- Shall assist in new employee orientation as directed by the Captain.
- Inspects and provides general maintenance to the ambulance and reports any deficiencies of required equipment and supplies daily to ensure full operational readiness.
- Handles assigned tasks to fulfill the mission of the Emergency Services, such as training, supply maintenance, billing, etc.
- Maintains the departmental record system on hazardous materials in accordance with Federal and

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- High school/vocational school education or equivalent and two years experience working as an emergency medical technician.

Certifications/Licenses |
- The following certifications are required and must be maintained for the duration of employment in this position:
- Current certification as an emergency medical technician through completion of the New Jersey Department of Health (DOH) accredited Emergency Medical Technician-B training program.
- Current certification as American Heart Association BLS-Health Care Provider (or DOH approved equivalent) in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Completion of an Incident Management I-100 Course (or equivalent).
- Valid driver's license, two years driving experience and upon employment must successfully complete the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.

- Knowledge of basic computer office applications preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- May be required to work various shifts including days, evening, nights, weekends and holidays. Knowledge of basic computer officer applications preferred
- Must wear an N-95 type respirator and must be able to pass a medical clearance examination and mask fit test.
- All candidates must possess the physical strength to lift/move patients as well as perform routine related tasks.
