Architectural Metals (Metals) is a segment within Apogee that is a provider of aluminum windows, curtainwall (soon to be retired), storefront and entrance systems. We offer an integrated set of capabilities including design, engineering, extrusion, finishing, fabrication, and assembly.

Job Overview

The Automation Controls Technician I will support the installation, troubleshooting, and basic programming of industrial automation systems. This role is ideal for candidates beginning their career in industrial controls, who are eager to learn and develop their skills in a hands-on environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work Order Coordination:

    • Create, assign, and monitor work orders in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

    • Prioritize maintenance tasks to ensure timely completion based on operational needs.

    • Track and document maintenance activities to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Inventory Management:

    • Maintain an organized and accurate inventory of spare parts and maintenance supplies.

    • Coordinate with suppliers to order parts and materials as needed, ensuring availability to minimize downtime.

    • Monitor inventory levels and implement inventory control practices to optimize stock levels.

  • Administrative Support:

    • Maintain maintenance records, including equipment logs, preventive maintenance schedules, and repair histories.

    • Generate reports and analyze data to identify trends, improve processes, and support decision-making.

    • Assist in budget tracking for maintenance-related expenditures.

  • Collaboration and Communication:

    • Act as a liaison between maintenance, operations, and other departments to ensure alignment of priorities and schedules.

    • Communicate effectively with external vendors and contractors to coordinate services and deliveries.

    • Provide regular updates to the Maintenance Manager and other stakeholders on the status of maintenance activities.

  • Safety and Compliance:

    • Support adherence to safety protocols and company policies during all maintenance activities.

    • Ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards in maintenance operations.

    • Participate in safety audits and provide recommendations for improvements.

  • Continuous Improvement:

    • Identify opportunities to streamline maintenance processes and improve efficiency.

    • Support the implementation of new technologies and systems to enhance maintenance operations.

    • Provide training and support to team members on the use of CMMS and other tools.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Education:

    • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree or certification in a related field preferred.

  • Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience in maintenance coordination, inventory management, or a related role in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Required Skills:

    • Proficiency in using CMMS software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with internal teams and external vendors.

  • Preferred Skills:

    • Experience in a manufacturing environment, particularly in the architectural framing or construction industry.

    • Knowledge of maintenance practices, equipment troubleshooting, and parts procurement.

    • Familiarity with safety and regulatory standards, such as OSHA requirements.

Work Environment

  • This role is primarily based in a manufacturing facility and involves regular interaction with maintenance technicians, production staff, and suppliers.

  • Occasional lifting of parts or supplies may be required.
