Summary
:


Due to rapid and sustained growth, we seek an Application Engineer to join our team. You will support SKF's Magnetic Bearing and High-speed Motor business unit for industrial applications with a focus on the HVAC industry. You will report to the Sales Director, Magnetic Systems North America and work as part of the Magnetic Systems team to support our customers. You will develop customer technical needs, evaluate technical risks, and work with a team of world-leading magnetic levitation and electric motor engineers to support our OEM partners with technical development and problem solving. You will promote SKF know-how and value propositions in line with corporate strategy and be part of a global team with access to subject matter experts to aid in design, analysis, and best practice work for our technology. You will collaborate with our customers to solve real technical problems and resolve any obstacles or complaints hindering technical and commercial success. You will reduce risk for our customers. You will own and drive product performance and root cause analysis when problems arise.

Responsibilities:



  • Identify and support new business opportunities by understanding customer needs and market trends to ensure our product and technical roadmaps will meet the needs of our customers.


  • Develop and support our industrial customers, focusing on Magnetic Bearings and High-Speed Motors for high-speed direct drive compressors and blowers.


  • Coordinate engineering activities from the beginning of a business opportunity until the end of production, following the Engineer to Order (ETO) process.


  • Collaborate with the customer's engineering team to solve technical problems and own/coordinate product change management between SKF and our customers.


  • Increase your competency regarding the fundamentals of magnetic bearing levitation and high-speed motor technology through on the job and in classroom training.


  • Work with and impact a fast-moving global team from engineering, sales, business development, project management, design, quality, testing, manufacturing, and customer service. Create and deliver technical presentations and training events to customers.


  • Coordinate and align tasks involving our North American OEM customers while building and improving relationships with customers' engineering/technical teams to implement innovative solutions.

SKF's portfolio includes active magnetic bearings and high-speed motors that are integral to the development of cutting-edge cooling systems for data centers. These solutions help improve system stability, reduce energy consumption, and support the sustainability goals of our customers.

By focusing on data center cooling, SKF aims to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions and enhance the overall efficiency of HVAC systems. This aligns with our strategic framework of delivering both intelligent and clean solutions to our customers.

Desired Education, Knowledge, and Skills:



  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. A minimum of 5 years' experience in an applications engineering role is required.


  • Working knowledge of centrifugal compressors, and/or magnetic bearings and high-speed motors is highly desired.


  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills.


  • Demonstrated customer service, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.


  • Outcome-oriented, critical thinker capable of prioritizing to achieve results.
