Description

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will join our Hardware Engineering team in Indianapolis, IN. The position is 100% on-site and the work environment will be a hybrid between office environment and industrial manufacturing floor.

Typical Duties:

Though this is not a supervisory position, the Senior Manufacturing Engineer will guide a team of 5-8 manufacturing engineers through a Maintenance/Repair/Overhaul (MRO) operation & Modernization project of sub-systems of an aeronautical platform. Key capabilities critical to the success of this role and the overall project include having the ability to understand and research military Technical Manuals (TMs), Technical Orders (TOs), and engineering drawings & CAD models; and translating technical details to support metal fabrication and mechanical assembly operations by generating work instructions and resolving production issues through hands-on support. The engineer will assist in process development. Additionally, this role will support engineering activities pertaining to the disposition of defective material and guide Engineering Change Management (ECM) activities of the team through coordination with the Project Lead and Program Manager (PM).

An example of tasking would be as follows:

This position may review and approve changes to work instructions; track Engineering Proposals (EPs), Requests for Variances (RFVs), and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), and conduct cross-functional coordination with engineering, production scheduling, and quality control for defect resolution and disposition at the in-house component-level fabrication, and the execution and installation of required modifications and upgrades at the assembly-level operations.

Required Skills:



  • 10+ Years in a cross-functional engineering role.
  • 5+ years of experience in major assembly operations.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in an industrial metal fabrication environment-including machining of parts from billet, sheet metal fabrication, and mechanical assembly operations with basic familiarity with metals' material properties
  • Experience in technical writing and development of detailed work instructions for assembly and rework operations.
  • Experience using 3D CAD programs (PTC Creo preferred) to create production drawings from model.
  • Familiarity with and ASME Y14-series standards (including Y14.5 GD&T) and experience reading and interpreting assembly drawings.
  • Must be a US Citizen with ability to pass a criminal background check and gain a Secret Security Clearance through the Department of Defense (possession of an active DoD Secret Clearance preferred)


Desired Experience & Skills:



  • 7+ years of experience as an engineer in aerospace and/or defense manufacturing industry-preferably with MRO operations and/or production of military A/C.
  • FAA A&P certification desired but not required (focus on Airframe maintenance)
  • 6-10+ years of direct ASI maintenance experience in DoD a plus but not required (e.g. AFSCs 21AX, 2A7X3, 2A5X4, 2A7X5, or comparable experience).
  • Experience using ERP platforms to generate production routings (SAP S/4HANA preferred)
  • Experience using PDM suites (Windchill preferred) to manage production process documents
  • Familiarity with National Industry Standards such as ASME, ASTM, SAE standards, and MIL-STDs in regard to fabrication, assembly, and testing procedures and requirements (Ability to Reference, Interpret, and integrate into detailed work instructions)
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.


Education Requirements:



  • Bachelors Degree Required (preferred concentrations in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering/Technology)
