The Communications Technician will install, maintain, and repair communications wiring and equipment. Ensure that work is in accordance with relevant codes according to the National Electrical Code (NEC), federal regulations, and OSHA safety standards. Communications Technician will possess previous work experience (trade school), certifications, and licenses required by the State where work is to be performed. Being able to work in various working conditions is necessary. The Communications Technician may spend their time working inside buildings under construction or renovation, or outdoor telecommunications systems, camera installations, media boxes, and communication cabinets, fiber activities including installation, splicing, fiber shelter, and power installations.
Communications
- Assemble, install, test, splice, and maintain fiber wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
- Read blueprints or technical diagrams.
- Identify communication problems using a variety of testing tools and strategies
- Follow building codes/regulations based on the National Electrical Code.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to identify the cause and to correct the problem.

Driving
- Load material or equipment for transport from the shop to the jobsite and secure as appropriate
- Transport materials and equipment to and from job sites
- Operate all company vehicles in accordance with local laws/regulations in a safe and courteous manner
- Conduct daily inspections of the vehicle and immediately report any problems or damage, or maintenance issues to your manager or the fleet manager
- Keep assigned vehicles clean and orderly
- Comply with all DOT and in-house regulations and rules
- Complete a daily log and submit reports of mileage/hours covered at EOD
- Drive vehicle to worksites

Safety
- Promote, execute, and adhere to the company's safety program.
- Attend daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections.
- Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself or endanger the wellbeing of others.
- Cooperate with safety personnel, supervisors, and managers to ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the company's safety policies.
- Working environments often involve live electrical wires, so they can be quite dangerous if the proper precautions aren't taken.

- Participate as a vital crew member and contribute towards the success of the project and the organization
- Promote a team approach and maintain communications with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas
- Collaborate with other company personnel to meet organizational deadlines and objectives
- Complete daily reports and timecards and support the construction manager

Education |
- High school diploma/GED required
|
Experience |
- 3 yrs. in Communications systems installation and maintenance
|
Licenses/ Certification/ Registration |
- Current, valid driver's license required (commercial driver's license preferred)
- Must be able to obtain DOT Medical Card, if no CDL, due to gross weight on vehicles
|
Special knowledge, skills, & abilities |
- Work schedule will require open availability including weekends, holidays and overnights as determined by the needs of the business; must be flexible
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment, post-offer background check and drug test
