Laser Operator 3

Applies advanced laser operator processes for sheet metal aircraft components as specified by written instructions, schedules and drawings. Inspects completed work for conformance to specifications.

Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform setups and operations using Fiber and/or YAG CNC lasers on production hardware.
  • Complete advanced tasks while applying standard practices.
  • Train others in multiple areas and on a variety of skills.
  • Rework, repair, or recut parts with minimal direction.
  • Develop new jobs independently.
  • With minimal direction, identify and solve machine alignment problems.
  • Implements process improvements.
  • Design shop aids and tools.
  • Create laser schedules as needed.
  • Use company computer systems and tools to assist in manufacturing planning and remedy roadblocks to production.
  • Provide input on tool design.
  • Continuously strives to find a better way to process parts.
  • Troubleshoot program errors.
  • Troubleshoot machine errors and issues.
  • Applies intermediate level understanding of G and M code.
  • Able to set up and run jobs with little to no resource support.
  • Able to complete work within the established timeframe on a minimum of three machine (or control system) types.
  • Can move to various work areas easily with experience.
  • May oversee others.
  • May perform shop support responsibilities, including but not limited to, deburring, manual pressure cleaning, part prep.
  • And any other duties assigned to help drive to our vision, fulfill our commitments, and carry out our organization's virtues.

Skills, Education and Required Experience

  • Must be able to use mathematics relevant to laser operator functions.
  • Requires familiarity with machine tools, precision instruments and good manual dexterity.
  • Fully proficient in interpreting manufacturing planning, sketches, blueprints, and specifications, including views, symbols, and revision control, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Few limitations but knows what they are and stops and finds appropriate interpretation when necessary.

Physical Requirements

  • The laser operator performs physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and frequent movement of the whole body, such as climbing, repetitive lifting up to 40 pounds, balancing, and handling of material.

Working Conditions

  • Use of protective clothing, laser glasses, and other equipment to prevent burns and eye injuries.
  • Frequent use of hand tools and pressure washer.
  • Frequent crane use and overhead work.

  • Our 2nd shift receives a shift differential of $2.00 per hour. Our weekend shifts receive $6.00 shift differential pay while working 36 hours per week.

Please note that the salary range information is only applicable for California, Massachusetts, New York, Washington. Compensation is based on a variety of factors, candidate experience, qualifications, location as well as market and business considerations.

Competitive Compensation

  • Pay Range: $26.25 - $33.50
