Automation/Controls Technician Automation/Controls Technician Description Energetic, self-motivated, self-starter with the desire to learn and ability to adapt in any situation. Work is project-orientated, and you may be working on a number of projects, at various stages, at any given time. Work will be performed with minimal supervision. Typical work activities include but are not limited to:
- Apply automation skills along with related knowledge in electronics, mechanics, pneumatics, and the ability to install, program, troubleshoot, circuitry, control systems, and machinery.
- Apply sensor technology and integration with PLC programs to prevent quality deficient product from being produced
- Be part of automation team able to determine proper cell layout / robot placement including peripheral equipment
- Assemble and trouble shoot equipment from assembly drawings, wiring diagrams and equipment BOMs
- Troubleshoot to determine system or equipment malfunctions using knowledge of microprocessors, programmable controllers, circuit analysis, electronics and pneumatics
- Design, program and troubleshoot PLC, industrial control systems and relay control circuits to include panel layouts, wiring diagrams and interfaces. Perform testing, start-up, and troubleshooting of PLC and industrial control systems
- Install safety systems following the Guidelines in the Equipment Commissioning Checklist.
- Provide in-house training to the Maintenance Technicians for trouble shooting and diagnostics of automated equipment.
- Prepare specifications and standard operating instructions for processes and equipment
- Support production in day-to-day trouble shooting and problem solving of equipment and process failure
- Works well with others
- Travel for installation, startup, training, and service work as scheduled as needed / scheduled
Requirements
- Ideal candidate will have 1-5 years' experience in PLCs and / or Robotics programming (associate's degree or greater from an accredited college or university, with an emphasis in engineering; Automation, Electro-Mechanical, or similar related degree is preferred).
- Electrical background is a must
- PLC/SCADA/HMI programming
- Troubleshooting, installation and commissioning
- Knowledge in pneumatics and mechanical assembly a plus
- Assemble, test, install and troubleshoot automation equipment
- Knowledge and experience with electrical equipment: 480/230 3ph, 110 & 24vdc controls, prints and schematics
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft programs, such as Word, Excel, and Outlook
- May use computer-assisted design software to create CAD drawings of project wiring diagrams, panel layouts is a plus, but not required
- Ability to work in a diverse work environment
- Ability to travel as necessary to assist with equipment installation, startup, and service
