THE POSITION

The Department of Banking & Securities (DoBS) is excited to welcome a diligent Depository Financial Institutions Examiner 1 to serve as an assistant examiner and participate in the examination of financial depository institutions all across Pennsylvania. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Depository Financial Institutions Examiner 1, you will perform a variety of assignments and participate in training programs designed to further competency and develop skills in the application of examining techniques. This position affords the unique opportunity to travel both in and out of the state in order to assist in the completion of examinations of financial institutions and conduct independent examinations of departments within financial institutions. We value and encourage professional growth and development, therefore you will participate in a variety of formal and on-the-job training assignments, attend basic examining or training seminars, and have the opportunity to study training materials to further develop the skills necessary to examine records, operations, and procedures of financial institutions. Work includes analyzing records of financial institutions to determine compliance; reconciling undivided profits, loss reserves, and capital accounts; as well as reconciling total balances of all savings accounts, checking accounts, certificates of deposit, time open accounts, and all loan accounts to the general ledger. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing cash items, overdrafts, correspondent due from accounts, and other miscellaneous assets to determine amount of loss
  • Reviewing bank premises, furniture and fixtures accounts, other real estate and real estate sales contracts, and classifying as deemed appropriate
  • Reviewing written policies, reports, and open loan accounts
  • Analyzing operations of the institution for sound accounting, general operational procedures, and internal controls
  • Balancing trust subsidiary accounts to trust control figures

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time, home headquartered employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • This position requires out of state training annually during the first 4-5 years.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree with a major in accounting, finance, economics or information technology including or supplemented by nine credits in accounting; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes nine college credits in accounting.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires possession of a current driver's license which is not under suspension.
  • You must possess and maintain a REAL ID or passport for this position. Proof of possession will be needed at the time of a conditional offer of employment.
