We are seeking a dedicated Cable Technician I to support the installation, testing, and maintenance of telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure within a Department of Defense (DoD) environment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with copper and fiber optic systems and a strong understanding of industry standards and testing procedures. Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the installation, termination, and testing of fiber optic and copper cabling (e.g., CAT6).
- Analyze, administer, and maintain network cabling infrastructure across secure facilities.
- Utilize network cabling test equipment including copper testers, network testers, OTDRs, and fiber power meters to verify performance and troubleshoot issues.
- Adhere to BICSI standards, ensuring all installations meet industry best practices and DoD requirements.
- Support site surveys and infrastructure assessments to determine cabling needs and system improvements.
- Maintain accurate records of cable runs, testing results, and infrastructure layouts.
Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- Citizenship and Clearance:
- US Citizenship is required.
- Must have and maintain a current DoD Secret clearance.
- Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience
- Experience:
- 3+ years of related telecommunications experience
- 3+ years of experience working as a Cable Technician within the DOD environment
- Certifications:
- Related certifications for Fiber Optic Cable and CAT6 Cable Installation
- Skills:
- Must be familiar with BICSI rules, regulations, and standards.
- Well versed in the use of network cabling test equipment including network testers, copper cable testers, fiber OTDRs and fiber power meters.
- Analyzes, administers, and maintains telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure.
Work Environment and Physical Demand:
- Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
- May require ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- May require the ability to crawl on the floor and in tight spaces, and climb ladders and elevated platforms to install equipment, cables, and fiber.
