Job Description Albemarle Corporation is currently seeking aProcess Design Director to lead the process design function for theDirect Lithium Extraction Commercial Plant Project in Salar de Atacama. This director will lead a team of design engineers as direct reports and will set design standards and practices consistent with the corporate standards, tailored to the local requirements and restrictions. The position will be based in our Charlotte, NC office with significant travel (>80%) and short-term expat assignments to our office in Santiago, Chile, as needed. The position will report directly to the Sr. Director DLE Process Technology. What You Will Do Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Adhere to and support Albemarle's Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Sustainability Policies Play an active role in the development of the safety culture on the project, making safety a natural part of all work performed Lead the overall process design organization and develop the process design engineers working on the project Set vision, goals, and expectations for the process design team Serve as the process design leader for ISBL and OSBL scopes through all stages of the project Ensure the DLE projects is delivered following the Albemarle Project Process (APP) Lead the maturing of the Process Design Packages (PDP) Assure that overall process designs are sound, optimized and are performed in a timely manner with accuracy and high quality Oversee and provide quality assurance for process design activities occurring at the office of the engineering contractor Collaborate closely with other project team members including process technology licensors, discipline engineers, construction, procurement, planning and scheduling, operations and commissioning and startup manager
What You Bring Required
M.S degree or higher in chemical engineering with 15+ years of experience 10+ years of management or supervisory experience in an owner organization Strong leadership and intrapersonal skills Ability to mentor, teach and coach others Proven track record of success in chemical process design Detail oriented with high standards for accuracy and completeness Ability to work independently with limited technical oversight Works effectively within a project stage-gate system environment Strong problem solving and analytical skills Ability to think critically and strategically A positive attitude and ability to communicate with peers and stakeholders at all levels Exceptional verbal and written communication skills Fluent in English
Preferred
Experience being a working supervisor over process design and or project professionals in a matrixed organization Proven ability to lead a large, multi-disciplinary technical organization or project team Highly motivated with the ability to inspire and drive results through teamwork with all levels of the organization Strong grasp of chemical engineering fundamentals and ability to bring a fundamental approach to process design Familiarity with project methodologies to scale-up new technologies from lab to pilot plant to production Previous experience with equipment such as high temperature kilns, specialized filtration, crystallizers, centrifuges, and solids handling equipment is a plus Demonstrated knowledge of the ability to read, understand, and modify or develop project technical documentation across all technical disciplines Experience managing a process design team from concept through detailed engineering Ability to adapt, multi-task and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment with evolving changes in design requirements Prior experience acting as owner representative providing oversight of work done by an EPC(CM) contractor Experienced working in a project stage-gate system environment Strong business, operational and technical acumen
