Carpenter

Hourly Range: $39.66

Closing Date - May 22, 2025, or upon receiving 50 applications.

Job Summary: Responsible for designing, building, installing, and repairing structures, fixtures, furniture, and other items using different types of materials including wood and steel to protect and enhance departmental assets.

Job Responsibilities:



  • Perform carpentry and related activities - Perform inspections of Departmental assets for building code compliance and maintenance needs. Perform routine and emergency repairs of buildings and structures including but not limited to; doors, windows, roofs, walls, floors, ceilings, siding, bridges, fences and wooden/timber structures.
  • New Construction - Design and build new construction projects includng but not limited to; show props, furniture, cabinets, signs, bridges, buildings
  • Locksmith - Install, remodel, repair and maintain lock mechanisms, door openers, closures and hardware.
  • Administrative - Utilize computer-based work order system for job asks, initiate work requests to other trades or divisions, and document work/inspections. Order materials and supplies in county procurement program.
  • Special Projects - Participate on special carpenter related projects. Other duties as assigned.
  • General small tool maintenance and repair - To keep all power equipment and hand tools, consistent with the trade, in working condition.



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Current residency in the State of Wisconsin required.
  • A valid State of Wisconsin Driver's License at time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
  • High School Diploma/GED


  • At least Five (5) year or more of work experience as a Recognized Journeyman Carpenter.
  • The ability to lift, carry and push and pull up to 50lbs


Preferred Experience -



  • Experience with blueprint design review preferred
  • Experience with roofing, shingling, drywall, specialized form construction preferred
  • Custom cabinet building preferred



Certifications and Licenses -




  • Asbestos Certification preferred


  • Completion of Apprenticeship as a Carpenter or recognized Journeyman Certificate during application.



Note: This Original Examination is open to qualified applicants currently residing in the State of Wisconsin. In accordance with Rule III, Section 12 of the Civil Service Rules, a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources to rank applicants on the eligible list for this position.
