Parks Maintenance Worker

Pay Range Hourly - $21.08 - $31.60

Job Summary: Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of a park unit to ensure quality facilities and amenities and a safe environment; preserve and enhance department assets; ensure quality service and product delivery.

Job Responsibilities:



  • Equipment Maintenance - Inspect and maintain all equipment and tools related to the performance of job duties.
  • Turf and grounds maintenance - Maintain Park green space to include, but not limited to, mowing, trimming, fertilization, aerification, seeding, weeding, planting, mulching, and irrigation.
  • Athletic Fields and other Recreation Facility Maintenance - Set up and maintain natural or synthetic baseball/softball fields, turf sport fields and hard surface play courts by industry practices to a standard level for competitive play. Assist with special facilities such ice rinks, natural or rinks with chillers.
  • Building and amenity maintenance - Maintain buildings and facilities such as pavilions, shelters, service yards, clubhouses, pool buildings, to include, but not limited to, general cleaning, rental set up, waxing and stripping floors, graffiti removal, inspection, build and repair picnic tables.
  • Parkway, path, and parking lot maintenance - Maintain Park roadways, drives, parking lots, and pathways to include, but not limited to, cold patching, line striping, cleaning catch basins, snow removal, and salting.
  • Aquatic facility maintenance and operation - Maintain and operate a variety of pools, mainly splash pads and wading pools. Assist with deep-well pool preparations and maintenance with some operation when necessary.
  • Special assignments and projects - Participate on special project teams; community outreach efforts; and other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Current resident of Wisconsin.
  • Valid WI Driver's License
  • Ability to lift/carry/push/pull 50 lbs.
  • High School Diploma
  • Less than One (1) year of experience in Grounds, Landscape or Park Maintenance
  • Associate's Degree preferred (Park & Rec, Horticulture, Agronomy, Turf Management)
  • CDL Class A preferred


License and Certification:



  • Class "B" CDL must be obtained within 6 months
  • First Aid and CPR must obtained within 6 months
  • WI 3.0 pesticide applicator's license required within 6 months


Note: This Original Examination is open to current residents of the State of Wisconsin. The selection process will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: education and experience evaluation; written, oral, or performance tests, or other assessment methods.
