Position Summary |
Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, the research technician will be tasked with performing cellular and molecular biology experiments creating viral vectors for neuroscience applications. Please see our publications and descriptions of our research at unc-neurotools.org.
The majority of duties will involve daily mammalian cell culture, cloning,
DNA preparation, viral vector purification, and routine lab maintenance which requires rigorous attention to detail, accurate record keeping, and consistent aseptic technique.
The candidate will be required to maintain healthy and sterile cell-culture conditions and precisely quantify cell numbers during thawing, passaging, and freezing of cell-lines. Additional duties include preparing cell culture reagents and media, receiving, and documenting reagents, supplies, and equipment, complying with mandated safety protocols, disposal of chemical and biohazard waste, maintaining equipment in good working condition, and communicating results during lab meetings.
Candidates will be encouraged to embrace opportunities to participate in other lab projects that may use cell-culture assays, molecular cloning, real-time
PCR, immunocytochemistry, preparing reagents, data analysis and interpretation, maintaining a database of experimental results, assisting the preparation of grant applications and publications, and providing general technical assistance to support ongoing research projects. |

Previous experience with cell culture. Ability to conduct aseptic cell culture technique within biological safety cabinets for multiple hours per day. Consistently strong organizational and recordkeeping skills. |
