The
Patient Account Specialist - Revenue Cycle Coordination role requires knowledge of medical insurance billing, as well as provider credentialing and enrollment. This position works closely with our third-party revenue cycle management team to process claims, manage denials, and handle appeals. It also involves working directly with payors on credentialing, enrollment, and recredentialing for approximately 30 providers. In addition, the role helps develop and support policies and procedures related to the revenue cycle to ensure the quality and efficiency of our billing processes and systems, with the goal of optimizing reimbursement. |
Minimum Education and Experience |
- High school diploma/GED
- Two years' experience with healthcare claims. |

- Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration or a related field preferred
- Two years of experience with healthcare claims
- Strong personal computer literacy required, including working knowledge of relevant software packages such as Microsoft Excel and Word
- Familiarity and experience with practice management and patient accounting systems such as eClinicalWorks preferred
- Ability to work with large amounts of data, including performing data integrity checks, summarizing information, and effectively communicating with internal and external stakeholders
- Highly organized and effective at managing multiple activities simultaneously; strong planning and organizational skills required
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently
- Demonstrates the highest degree of accuracy and attention to detail in all work and team projects
- Uses, protects, and discloses patients' protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards

Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with our third-party revenue cycle management company on accounts that are pending, denied, or require appeals.
- Upload medical records to the revenue cycle company for claims that require documentation.
- Coordinate provider credentialing and enrollment with payors for our staff audiologists and speech-language pathologists.
- Review accounts and process patient credits/refunds for overpayments.
- Review self-pay accounts to identify statements that need to be mailed and process those statements accordingly.
- Work with the revenue cycle management company to identify patients who have received the maximum number of statements and subsequently mail final claims and collection notification letters.
- Coordinate the collections process for patients with past-due balances.
- Serve as backup to the Clinical Practice Manager and the other Patient Account Specialist.
