Job Summary
- The Managing Director of Technology - MarTech and Customer Data will provide leadership and direction for Southwest Airlines' Marketing Technology (MarTech) platforms and Customer Data strategies. This position will oversee the evaluation, implementation, integration, and evolution of advanced MarTech solutions and will evolve and execute the strategy for managing Customer Data. The Managing Director will partner with Marketing, Technology, and Analytics Teams to improve outcomes on key performance indicators, including acquisition, growth, and retention of customers. The Managing Director will also champion innovation by exploring trends in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and piloting use cases to position the organization for long-term Marketing success. Through cross-functional collaboration, the Managing Director will ensure alignment with organizational goals, deliver exceptional customer experiences, and prepare Southwest Airlines for the future of Marketing and Customer Engagement.

Responsibilities
- Create, lead, support, and influence the achievement of the mission, goals and objectives of the department and organization
- Oversee complex organizational issues, maintain an enterprise/industry perspective, and make appropriate decisions/trade-offs as required
- Assist internal and external Customers with establishing enterprise technology strategies and facilitate solutions
- Identify and influence business process change, definition, refinement, and execution in support of best business practices
- Extend delivery capability of Department through negotiating and leveraging outside consultants, vendor relationships, offering to extend delivery capability of Department
- Establish and maintain operations and strategic plans for systems and technology implementations: ensure ongoing stability of systems consistent with defined organizational objectives and strategic direction
- Develop procedures, tools, and support to ensure thorough testing is accomplished and assure functional and technical integrity of system
- Implement financial control and accountability on capital and operating expenses for all assigned areas of responsibility while maintaining consistent quality to meet business objectives
- Deliver and facilitate solid systems solutions in support of business processes and across technical and business Customers
- May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Expert knowledge of management/Leadership principals, personnel practices, and regulations
- Expert knowledge of technology practices, concepts, methodology, and trends related to cross-functional Teams
- Expert knowledge of project management methodology
- Expert knowledge of business acumen including understanding product strategy across market segments
- Expert knowledge of business to assess impact of applied technology on Customer's business processes
- Skilled in excellent partnering, negotiation and communication in order to facilitate interactions with business Customers and technical support
- Ability to implement strategic direction and influence at the Department and enterprise level
- Ability to effectively lead larger, more complex Teams to accomplish goals/objectives
- Ability to manage multiple project Teams and stakeholder expectations while delivering quality projects on time and within budget
- Ability to develop, continuously evolve and move forward a sound strategic vision for the Department
- Ability to prioritize problems and solutions at a department/enterprise level and provide effective follow-up and communication when problems occur
Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED Required: Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration or related field and/or equivalent formal training - Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Marketing or related field and/or equivalent formal training
- Preferred: Master's degree in Business Administration or related field and/or equivalent formal
Experience
- Demonstrated experience in directly or indirectly leading team(s)
- Advanced level Business Acumen in functional area
- Seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
- A Business and/or Information Technology environment, specifically related to Departmental functions
- Directing multiple large applications, operations, and engineering development efforts
- Multiple technologies or business areas and broad business/system expertise
- Preferred: Seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
Delivering MarTech solutions and driving measurable business outcomes Managing large-scale digital transformation initiatives and cross-functional teams Leveraging data to power Marketing operations and analytics Driving data-driven strategies and leveraging technology to improve marketing performance and customer engagement Experience in the airline, travel, or hospitality industries.
Licensing/Certification
- Preferred but not required: Certifications in relevant MarTech platforms (e.g., Adobe, etc.) or data management frameworks
Physical Abilities
- Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
- Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
- Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
- Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
- Must meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary and sensitive Company information
- Air travel with frequent overnight stays required
- Ability to work extended hours as needed
Competitive market salary from $219,250 per year to $243,600 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
