This combined team, in collaboration with key partners, builds solutions to serve Marketing, Customer Engagement, Medical Affairs, Public Affairs & Access ("CMG"), and other patient- and customer-facing teams across CMG to shape and drive a seamless, consistent, meaningful, and compliant experience for patients and customers across our interactions. The team is specifically accountable for:

  • Defining omnichannel solutions, shaping engagement strategies, designing, operationalizing, and producing seamless, consistent & meaningful patient and customer experiences.

  • Accelerating, connecting, and enabling the development of digital solutions that enhance the patient and customer experience across CMG.

  • Advancing the mission of seamless, consistent & meaningful patient and customer experiences that maximize patient impact while keeping compliance at the forefront.

Job Summary

The Director, Media Operations will serve as the business product owner, managing all media operations functions for commercial and non-commercial business units, while stewarding media and social strategy and planning for non-marketing organizations such as US Medical, Government and Patient Advocacy, Customer Engagement (CE) and Corporate Communications, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and maximizing engagement across different audiences. This role will also be responsible for organization-wide operational excellence through the application of expert media operations knowledge and the execution of critical media operations functions. This individual will work in partnership with all global business operations teams, and commercial, medical and governance teams, and will be solely responsible for managing all distinct areas of media operations: process management, asset trafficking, media data operations, and organic social media.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee enterprise media operations functions, including allocation of work volume across teams and team members, organization of tasks by brand or therapeutic area, and management of all functions for program / process management, asset trafficking, media data operations, and organic social media.

  • Act as the business product owner, overseeing the execution of media and social strategies to support non-marketing organizations such as US Medical, Government and Patient Advocacy, and Corporate Communications.

  • Work in close collaboration with the Director, Media Process Architect to evaluate new structures, processes, tools, automations or documentation to improve the speed, effectiveness, safety, training, and successful adoption of our media operations.

  • Lead non-commercial strategic planning and alignment efforts to ensure media and social initiatives effectively engage audiences while advancing the objectives of non-commercial organizational stakeholders.

  • Act as the key bridge from marketing teams, and from respective medical, government affairs, corporate communications, and PR teams to media operations, in accordance with compliance and regulatory practices which mandate independent handling of commercial and non-commercial media strategies.

  • Partner closely with brand marketing teams and the digital marketing office to translate brand-level and enterprise-level marketing and media strategies into best-in-class media operations.

  • Partner with Global product managers to drive effective collaboration for shared learnings and efficiencies.

  • Proactively evaluate opportunities for improved operations among our internal or external media agency partners; evaluate campaign structure, QA, and performance within media platforms regularly.

  • Work with the technical teams to align business objectives with technology and integrations.

  • Ensure all media processes adhere to regulatory, compliance, and privacy standards, safeguarding the company's interests and customer data.

  • Demonstrate strong customer orientation and business acumen, with the ability to adapt thinking and apply a critical mindset to complex challenges.

  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, complemented by proficiency in project planning, resource management, and oversight.

  • Partner with other applicable Business Product Owners / Executive Director - Omnichannel Suite Lead to achieve and meet patient, professional, and internal customers needs by aligning roadmaps and initiatives.

  • Coach, manage, and allocate work across both Genentech and Near-shore Roche Services & Solutions (RSS) resources in order to maximize effectiveness across the portfolio of products.

  • Comply with all laws, regulations and policies that govern the conduct of Genentech activities.

  • Own the business relationships and product scoping of key organic social media service and technology solutions providers (e.g. SPRNKLR, SproutSocial)

  • Act as point of contact for business feedback, recommendations, & user requests for enhancements to the Social product.

People

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the Media Operations team, fostering an exemplary employee experience, including a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability

Who You Are

Minimum Candidate Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business, technology, operations, science, marketing, or a related field.

  • 8 years of experience working in digital media planning or buying, digital marketing, media agencies, marketing operations, digital brand strategy, or data analysis

  • Fluency / comfort with data systems, technology platforms, and integrations to inform strategic product decisions.

  • Strong skills in budget management, resource allocation, and stakeholder alignment for cross-functional collaboration.

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience in coaching and developing talent

  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities to influence stakeholders and evangelize the product vision.

  • Experience working in an agile setting or bringing agile best-practice mentorship to the team.

  • Experience collaborating with Legal, Compliance, and Privacy teams to ensure adherence to governance and regulatory standards, and help influence and evolve standards where needed.

  • Ability to innovate and foster experimentation to improve product capabilities.

  • Proven ability to adapt and navigate ambiguous or evolving environments.

  • Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking skills, with a focus on balancing short-term execution and long-term vision.

Additional Desired Candidate Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced certification in digital marketing / media

  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industries, or other large, matrixed organizations

  • Experience managing multi-channel media campaigns single-handedly

  • Experience working with media agencies

  • Strong data proficiency with deep understanding of data technology and platforms

  • Experience in brand marketing roles or collaboration with brand marketers to apply marketing strategy to media channels

  • Strong grasp of media channel best practices for creative messaging, formatting, audience targeting, and bidding strategies

  • Ability to flex and thrive in an ambiguous environment undergoing transformational change

  • This position is based in South San Francisco, CA

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $185,500 - $344,500. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
