The Institute for Juvenile Research (IJR) in the Department of Psychiatry, College of Medicine, UIC is seeking a full-time Clinical Research Coordinator, Intervention Study to support the ACCESS for Mental Health Lab, directed by Dr. Tara Mehta. The ACCESS lab is dedicated to alleviating disparities in access to mental health services for children and families, with a focus on vulnerable populations (e.g., urban poverty, ethnic/racial minorities). The Research Coordinator will support the research efforts of the ACCESS for Mental Health Lab, specifically a NIMH-funded R01 study titled "Patient Navigators for Children's Community Mental Health Services in High Poverty Urban Communities". The purpose of the study is to examine the effectiveness of peer-support specialists as navigators in engaging families within children's mental health systems for Black and Latinx children, aged 0-14, who live in high poverty urban communities.

This position entails a variety of skills and tasks dealing with the execution of a large, longitudinal community-based research study. The successful candidate will be exceptionally detail oriented, possess strong oral and written communication skills, be able to juggle multiple tasks, and have strong interpersonal skills. The Research Coordinator will manage and coordinate the day-to-day operations of all components of the clinical community-engaged research. This includes developing study procedures and managing and training the research team on project implementation; coordinating comprehensive patient protocol treatment schedules to maintain compliance to protocol requirements; developing effective participant recruitment strategies, and oversee and participate in subject recruitment, screening, scheduling, assessment and data management (qualitative and quantitative) for a multi-faceted community engaged investigation. The research coordinator will also attend, lead, and engage in meetings and trainings with community partners and communicate with community partners. The coordinator will prepare, organize, and summarize research and results for presentations and reports, with opportunities to contribute to publications, grants, and presentations and present at professional conferences. There may be opportunities to engage in other projects focused on community-based mental health services research, implementation science, and health disparities.

Job Responsibilities (Essential Duties):

The following is a list of duties and responsibilities expected from the candidate that fills the role of Clinical Research Coordinator, Intervention Study:
  • Assist in the establishment and coordination of clinical research protocols and organizational structure.
  • Coordinate and manage the maintenance of data collection and analyses tools (e.g., via REDCap), complete documentation for regulatory agencies, and communicate with community partners.
  • Conduct and oversee all aspects of recruitment and data collection, including survey data, interviews, observations or other methods outlined in the established research protocol for psychology and psychiatry mental health services research studies
  • Coordinate the activation and maintenance of clinical study protocols, including review and completion of submissions, amendments, and adverse event reports as required by the UIC Institutional Review Board (IRB) and grant sponsors.
  • Review laboratory and clinic procedures and evaluations regularly to ensure protocol compliance.
  • Act as a liaison between staff and the UIC IRB office, grant sponsors, and regulatory agencies to ensure priorities are clearly communicated and resources are allocated appropriately across ongoing projects.
  • Assist the Primary Investigator in the identification, recruitment, and enrollments of patients to meet clinical research protocol requirements.
  • Execute informed consent process and monitor patient status; enroll patients into research studies, explain the studies to the patients and obtain/document proper informed consent.
  • Ensure that patient enrollment and research activities comply with the established protocols. regulatory and monitoring agency standards, and grant sponsor guidelines.
  • Assist investigator in organizing study data for grant progress reports, analysis for meeting presentations and publications.

Job Knowledge & Skills, Education, Experience:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in social science or related field is required. A minimum of 3 years' experience in a research discipline involving clinical contact with research subjects is required.

Master's degree in social science or related is preferred. The best candidate would have the ability to manage multiple tasks, have strong interpersonal and customer service skills, have knowledge of research protocols, principles and procedures, have knowledge of aspects of clinical trials such as screening, interviewing, and knowledge of computer data management.

Benefits and Compensation:

The previously determined salary range for this position is $60,000.00 to $75,000.00.
