Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The George Washington University Hospital is seeking skilled and compassionate Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to join our Intensive Care Unit (ICU). As a CNA in the ICU, you will provide vital patient care and support under the direction of Registered Nurses and medical staff. This is a critical role for maintaining patient safety, assisting with complex care procedures, and ensuring a high standard of care in a fast-paced, high-acuity setting.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility support.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, and temperature.
  • Assist with patient transfers, turning, and repositioning, ensuring proper body mechanics and preventing skin breakdown.
  • Provide direct support to nursing staff during emergency situations and complex procedures.
  • Monitor and report changes in patient condition, including changes in mental status, vital signs, and skin integrity.
  • Assist with the setup and maintenance of medical equipment, including oxygen delivery systems and suction devices.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient care environment in adherence to infection control protocols.
  • Accurately document patient care activities in electronic medical records (EMR).

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Active CNA certification in Washington, D.C., or completion of at least 2 years of nursing school.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum of 6 months of CNA experience in an ICU, step-down, or telemetry unit.
  • Strong communication, observational, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while maintaining composure and professionalism.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a teaching or academic hospital setting.
  • Familiarity with ventilators, monitoring equipment, and advanced patient care techniques.
  • Knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
