Position Objective:

Develop next generation and disruptive technologies through partnerships and collaboration with clinicians and external and internal partners. Leverage knowledge of material science and engineering design to advance the development of advanced medical devices in the cardiac and aortic space.

Position Responsibilities:

Investigate and evaluate innovative medical devices:



  • Perform marketing and technical literature surveys to identify the current state of the art in multiple surgical disciplines
  • Contribute to the design ideation of new medical devices and components
  • Develop in silico models of device components for prototyping and characterization


Design and Development New Medical Products:



  • Utilize SolidWorks to convert concepts into detailed engineering drawings of new medical devices and subassemblies
  • Generate prototypes using additive or subtractive manufacturing strategies
  • Plan and execute formal Design Verification and Validation studies


Develop experimental testing strategies, protocols, and systems:



  • Define testing strategies to advance the understanding of current concepts
  • Author protocols for the characterization of device components
  • Construct test setups and systems to obtain testing data on device components


Problem Solving Approach:



  • Define strategies that enable the solving of multifaceted research problems
  • Assimilation of experimental and reference data to advance complex concepts


Research Acumen:



  • Refine knowledge and testing skills required to advance new medical device models
  • Collect meaningful data that will allow for the rejection of research hypotheses thus enabling advancement of the project


Medical Device Development:



  • Develop a more complete understanding of the design requirements needed to develop a new medical device
  • Advance knowledge of the inputs required in the development process of a new medical device


Qualifications:

Required:



  1. BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering
  2. 2 - 4 years of relevant work experience
  3. Knowledge of New Product Development and Design Controls
  4. Basic knowledge of mechanical testing, biomaterials, devices, and tissue biomechanical testing preferred
  5. Proficiency in generating test protocols, reports, and other technical documentation
  6. Exemplary verbal, technical, and written communication skills
  7. SolidWorks experience


Desired:



  1. Experience developing in vitro, in situ, in vivo, and ex vivo tests and experiments with medical devices
  2. Experience developing and testing class III medical devices
  3. Experience designing and developing mechanical, thermal, and biomechanical test methods
  4. Mechanical testing experience
  5. Statistical data analysis, Minitab knowledge preferred
