About the Job

Duties:
50% - To perform hands-on research in the laboratory and/or field settings with biological select agents causing Transboundary Animal Diseases in natural host species.
To conduct research and provide technical assistance to the PI, students, and trainees in the lab on pathogenesis, laboratory data analysis, and interdisciplinary problems related to foreign animal disease epidemiology.

25% - To collaborate with the PI in the generation and testing of research hypotheses and data analysis, writing of papers, grants, and reports, and preparation of presentations and lectures
To attend, participate, or present at laboratory meetings, seminars, graduate and undergraduate lectures, and conferences as needed

25% - To perform miscellaneous laboratory and office duties as assigned by the PI including, but not limited to, tracking biological select agents and help the PI in the organization and coordination of meetings and projects.
To maintain frequent communication with other faculty and collaborators, including, if required traveling to international destinations to meet with collaborators and collect data.
To be willing and able to travel as required by the project to support sample collection at field sites and laboratory research at collaborating institutions.

Qualifications

Requirements:
Candidates must have completed doctoral (DVM, PhD, or equivalent) degree(s) by start date and should be able to demonstrate experience on pathogenesis, epidemiology, or virology of veterinary pathogens.
Candidates with a strong background in Transboundary Animal Diseases will be given preference. Strong organizational, and writing skills are necessary. Because the laboratory research cannot be conducted in Minnesota due to restrictions associated with the work with pathogens, much of the work will be conducted at the Plum Island Animal Disease Center (PIADC) or the National Bio- and Agro-defense Facility (NBAF) in Manhattan, KS.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $56,485.00 - $61,008 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
