Earth Sciences and Engineering Job Description
This is a lab position that is centered around preparing soil samples that will be used to test a soil density meter that is being developed by TransTech, Inc. Some of the soil will first be dried in ovens, then will be pulverized (using a machine). Different types of soil (clay, silt, sand, and gravel) will be mixed to specific percentages to create target soils. Water will then be added to these soils to achieve a specific soil water content. Finally, each soil sample will be compacted. After compaction, measurements of the electrical properties of soil will be taken using two instruments by inserting probes into the compacted sample. No prior experience is needed for this job. All techniques will be explained in detail and will be demonstrated during job training. Shift
Duration: The position will start on May 20, 2025 and will continue until Aug. 5, 2025. The hours are 40 hours/week for 10 weeks. You may take off (unpaid) on July 4th and four other days of your choosing, or you can choose to finish before Aug. 5. Hours are 8 am to 5 pm, with one hour during that time for lunch and breaks. After the training period is over, hours can be somewhat flexible as long as samples are processed on time. Anticipated Hiring Range
The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $18.00 hourly. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
