What We'll Bring:

At TransUnion, we have a welcoming and energetic environment that encourages collaboration and innovation - we're consistently exploring new technologies and tools to be agile. This environment gives our people the opportunity to hone current skills and build new capabilities, while discovering their genius.

Come be a part of our team - you'll work with great people, pioneering products and cutting-edge technology

The Director, Research & Consulting - Diversified Markets is a senior leader and a key contributor to the perception that TransUnion is an authority on authority on consumer behavioral dynamics and an expert on various industries we serve. This position delivers critical, sophisticated and actionable insights into consumer behavior that drive client engagement and partnership. We are looking for a seasoned subject matter expert with mastery of a wide range of consumer analytical practices, ideally with a background in consumer credit and analytic research as well as one or more of the industries that Diversified Markets (DM) supports, including telecommunications/ wireless, utilities, gaming, retail and eCommerce.

What You'll Bring:

  • Extensive experience in consumer analytics to drive thought leadership initiatives.

  • 10+ years of experience increasingly senior roles in one or more of the industries served by the DM sector and/or financial services, or in consulting firms serving these industries, with a focus on quantitative consumer behavioral analysis. Experience in the telecommunications/ wireless industry is a plus.

  • Degree in business, statistics, operations research, finance, economics, or another related field.

  • Innate, unquenchable curiosity to understand why consumers and organizations behave the way they do.

  • Senior leader and can drive complex projects with minimal supervision.

  • Experience managing a team of contributors to an initiative and maintaining their enthusiasm, even when they don't report to you.

  • Skilled at evaluating data and summary statistics to find the underlying insights, and to guide a research project in the most fruitful direction. It is a big plus if you can actually perform analysis yourself, with experience manipulating large datasets using SAS, R, Python or other analytical software.

  • Expert with the Microsoft Office product suite, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

  • Comfortable discussing concepts at all levels of an organization, from entry-level analyst to CEO/Director. You have the ability to tailor your conversational approach to the audience-technical where you need to be, and strategic where appropriate, but always aimed at answering the business question.

    Impact You'll Make:

This role drives thought leadership in two ways: first, the incumbent manages sophisticated research initiatives aimed at understanding why consumers behave the way they do with their finances and their spending and payment behaviors; what external forces influence those behaviors; and what different consumer-driven industries need to know to identify, assess and respond to the risks and opportunities associated with those behaviors. Second, this role provides critical assistance to the Sales team in presenting advanced concepts to customers, and in exploring customer challenges across products/business units/functions, all while helping elevate the level and relevance of discussions that our Sales team has with customers. This role serves as an industry and business process expert for the Sales force and for our customers, but also has experience and credibility within the customer industries, having worked in one or more of the DM industries and/or in financial services as an employee or consultant. In short, you motivate our customers to see us as a trusted partner instead of a vendor. You will accomplish this through a variety of direct and indirect customer engagement vehicles.

    • As an authority on consumers and consumer finance dynamics, you will drive research and analysis projects around complex market trends, including ideation, study design, results analysis and final publication.

    • You will evaluate those dynamics and their impact on customer needs and behaviors, and translate those insights into actionable strategies and revenue-generating solution sets.

    • You will speak on behalf of TransUnion to share our insights at both our own conferences and at 3rd-party industry events.

    • You will drive our thought leadership more broadly as a TransUnion spokesperson to print, radio and television media outlets.

    • You will author articles based on our research for publication in industry-specific journals.

    • You will help lead the development and ongoing execution of one or more Advisory Boards, consisting of 10-14 senior leaders of public sector organizations (customers and prospects) who provide insights and guidance on industry trends, TransUnion research studies and new product concepts

    • You will support our sales teams through consulting as a consumer finance and industry expert, helping our clients identify and address emerging challenges and opportunities in the marketplace.

    • You will also educate/inform both internal TransUnion management and also our customers regarding the impact of industry dynamics on customers and TransUnion clients.

    • Through all these efforts, you will drive the sense of TransUnion as an authority on consumer finance and behavioral dynamics with industry knowledge and credibility within the DM target industries, and a worthwhile, trusted partner to our clients and prospects.
