Purpose of Position
Northern Kentucky University seeks an Assistant Vice Provost of Student Success who will lead strategic initiatives to enhance student persistence, retention, and graduation rates. The position involves collaborating with various campus stakeholders, developing and implementing student success programs, and evaluating their effectiveness. This role includes providing leadership in areas such as student advising, first-year experiences, and engaging learning and coordinated care initiatives. The Assistant Vice Provost of Student Success reports to the Vice Provost of Undergraduate Academic Affairs.
Primary Responsibilities
The person in this position will provide a strategic vision and leadership for multiple student success and support areas including: Learning Plus (Writing Center, Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, Testing Services), First Year Student Success Hub, our Pathfinders program, First Year Programs, Trio, UCAP, including the Care Closet and FUEL NKU. This position will also work closely with administrators and staff in Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Strategic Enrollment, the Office of Financial Assistant, academic departments and schools, and other units actively engaged in research and assessment of student retention initiatives and intervention opportunities enhancing student persistence toward graduation.
Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate and lead the continued development and implementation of NKU's student success strategies.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate student success programs using clear metrics that focus on retention, progression, and graduation.
  • Utilize data to regularly assess the effectiveness of NKU's student success strategies and recommend appropriate actions for continuous improvement.
  • Promote, lead, and execute NKU's coordinated care model.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with relevant stakeholders to support NKU students' success.
  • Lead and facilitate cross-divisional collaboration to promote NKU's coordinated care themes like academic planning and support, career development and planning, financial literacy, health and well-being, and affinity.
  • Work closely with deans, department chairs/school directors, faculty, Student Affairs, Strategic Enrollment, and other stakeholders to integrate student success initiatives.
  • Organize regular meetings of the Advising Leads from the colleges, FYSSH, and other units. Set priorities, agendas, and strategies for these meetings to help optimize how we advise students across the university.
  • Lead development and regular review of advising policies that align with NKU's success strategies and oversee coordination of policies and practices across the university.
  • Supervise support services such as First Year Programs, First Year Student Success Hub, Learning Plus, Trio, UCAP, and others as appropriate.
  • Support and represent the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Academic Affairs as needed.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree required, doctoral degree preferred
  • At least five years of experience working on a college/university campus with preference of demonstrated administrative and managerial experience.
  • Experience and demonstrated effectiveness leading retention initiatives and/or academic advising at the university level.
  • Experience developing and leading student-centered retention/persistence programs, particularly for first-year students.
  • Knowledge of student development theories is preferred.
  • Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in data analysis and assessment methodologies.
  • Expressed sensitivity to and understanding of the varied needs of the wide array of students we find at our institution.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, courtesy, and discretion in dealing with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and the public.
  • Teaching experience at the college-level or very broad training in college pedagogy.
