Compensation

The anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is$78,200.00 to$130,400.00.

Position Details

The Senior Customs Compliance Analyst plays a critical role ensuring Grainger maintains compliance with import regulations and analyzes the impacts of U.S. and Canadian Customs regulations to business operations. This role is responsible for conducting audits of customs transactions to help minimize exposure to penalties and audits levied by US Customs & Border Protection (CBP) and/or Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). The Senior Global Trade Compliance Analyst will partner with Grainger's 3rd party Customs Brokers and relevant import compliance teams to review customs transactions to ensure they were filed correctly as applicable to import regulations and internal Grainger SOPs. Additionally, the incumbent will audit Grainger product customs classifications (HTS US, Canadian HS) to ensure accuracy. The Senior Global Trade Compliance Analyst provides guidance, resolves issues, independently manages projects and ensures the smooth flow of Grainger product internationally. The incumbent also is involved in shaping processes, developing, and delivering training and then auditing compliance with new processes.

This position will be based in Lake Forest, IL onsite 2-3 days a week.

You Will

  • Continuously review relevant Canadian and U.S. Customs regulations to ensure compliance and operational procedures are updated accordingly and informs relevant teams on these changes to regulations.

  • Ensure import transactions are compliant with U.S. and/or Canadian Government regulations by executing audit on import transactions to ensure they comply with applicable import regulations and Grainger's internal procedures.

  • Establish and maintain a network of stakeholders within the enterprise and across relevant U.S. and Canadian government agencies.

  • Respond to requests from CBP and CBSA as needed.

  • Conduct analyses on updated duties and tariffs to assess business impact, ensure entry into database and updates duty rate changes to Finance.

  • Continuously review audit plan and perform risk assessment on Canadian import to adjust audit plan to ensure audit focuses on areas with greatest risk and potential exposure.

  • Compile audit results to present to 3rd party Customs Brokers, Grainger's operations and customs classifications teams, and the Global Trade Compliance leadership. Define patterns and quantify organizational risk.

  • Effectively communicate audit results to 3rd party Customs Brokers, Grainger's operations & customs classifications team, and the Global Trade Compliance leadership to collaboratively drive necessary corrective actions and continuous improvement.

  • Assist to identify root cause of issues raised and partner with relevant teams to eliminate future occurrences. Monitor and report on repeated deficiencies.

  • Document and maintain SOPs related to audit procedures as applicable.

  • Participate in continuous learning and training in areas such as changing import regulations, PGAs, free trade agreements, anti-dumping/countervailing cases, etc.

You Have

  • 5+years in customs work with demonstrated understanding and knowledge of customs regulations (CBSA and US CBP).

  • Strong industry knowledge of U.S. and Canadian import regulations, including areas such as classification, valuation, free trade agreements, special import programs (anti-dumping and countervailing/SIMA cases), and PGAs.

  • 5+years of experience in international supply chain logistics in a large organization.

  • Demonstrated experience effectively communicating with suppliers.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization.

  • Proven ability to adapt, prioritize and multi-task in a rapidly changing environment.

  • Proven project management skills, methodology, organization, and ability to drive projects to completion.

  • Advanced excel and SharePoint.

  • Licensed Customs Broker preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail to review large number of complex import transactions on on-going basis.

  • Ability to work independently, maintain accuracy and communicate findings succinctly.

  • Continuous Improvement Focus; ability to articulate a problem and identify the root cause.

  • PC proficiency in MSOffice applications (Excel, Word, etc.).

  • Experience with SAP and STEP, including GTS testing and reporting is a plus.
