As a Senior Product Design Engineer, you will lead the end-to-end design and development of high-speed connectors and cable assemblies for automotive applications within the Networking Segment of our Connected Mobility Solutions Business Unit. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that our products meet the highest standards of performance, quality, and reliability.

The ideal applicant will have demonstrated design leadership through the launch of successful platforms and the ability to appropriately plan and oversee the assignments of others through to completion with minimal direction. Responsibilities include developing timelines, meeting project schedules, managing risks, accurately quoting designs, and systematically solving problems.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the design and development of high-speed connectors and cable assemblies tailored for automotive applications, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Interface with professional cross functional team members in our signal integrity team, manufacturing integration team, program management, sales organization, validation team and senior leadership.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, simulations, and testing to validate product designs.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimize design for manufacturability and cost efficiency.
  • Utilize advanced CAD tools for 3D modeling and detail drawing creation.
  • Identify and implement innovative design solutions that enhance product performance and reliability.
  • Interface with customers and suppliers to define technical requirements and resolve design-related issues.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in high-speed data transmission technologies.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to the team.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, proposals, and presentations to stakeholders.
  • Support manufacturing and quality during product launches and have travel opportunities to visit our manufacturing sites and meet the global team
  • Help lead the organization in identification, evaluation, and implementation of new technologies and methodologies to enable next generation products, improve costs and quality, as well as improve New Product Development (NPD) engineering processes
  • Create relationships with cross functional team members and peers through team building activities and growth opportunities operating as One Molex Team

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in product design engineering, with a focus on high-speed connectors and cables.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive industry standards and environmental regulations.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (Preferably NX, Team Center).
  • Proficiency in DFMEA, GD&T, Tolerance Analysis, FEA simulation and DVP Validation
  • Proven experience with high-speed signal integrity analysis and testing.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Strong knowledge of Signal Integrity and high speed data transmission fundamentals.
  • Experience in terminal and plastic design, stamping, molding and manufacturing assembly processes.
  • Experience with USB, Ethernet and Coax connection systems.
  • Experience with Plato e1ns DFMEA software.
  • Experience with project management and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Masters Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
