Description
6:00AM-8:00PM M-F A Senior Welder in the Vehicle Maintenance Department is responsible for performing repair, fabrication and maintenance on vehicles and/or the vehicle components. This position routinely requires working along side other maintenance technicians on moderate to major repairs. Responsibilities of Position:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues and makes necessary repairs, adjustments, or replacements.
- Weld components using Mig and Arc welding equipment. May also require some brazing skills.
- Fabricate steel components on trucks.
- Ensure all safety devices on vehicles are in good working order.
- Assist less experienced technicians with repairs, maintenance assignments, and adjustments.
- May assist in other projects or areas of the shop as needed.
- Service fleet vehicles per company maintenance schedules and/or from driver vehicle inspection reports (DVIR).
- Maintain accurate records (time, maintenance orders, and parts usage) on the computer/tablet.
- Perform repair and maintenance of fleet vehicles in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies, and ensures same of others in the department.
- Complete adjustments, repairs, and component replacements to vehicles, equipment, and related components.
- May assist in other projects or areas of the shop as needed.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:
- Excellent welding and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to perform physical requirements of the job (prolonged physical exertions, including standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in awkward positions and tight areas).
- Ability to operate a forklift safely.
- Proficient in the use and interpretation of installation diagrams and troubleshooting manuals.
- Familiar with the use of schematics, wiring diagrams, and related troubleshooting guides pertaining to medium and heavy vehicle operations.
- Familiar with the use of schematics, wiring diagrams, and related troubleshooting guides pertaining to medium and heavy vehicle operations.
- Knowledge of small shop tools, MIG/ARC and stick welding.
- Cutting torch skills; ability to use plasma cutter.
Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:
- Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.
- Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
- Ability to travel between offices, as required.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Valid driver's license (if applicable).
- Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
- Must be able to read and speak the English language.
