Job Summary
#CA-SS Reporting directly to the Finance Supervisor of the Department, this position is responsible for oversight of External Contract revenue within the Department of Pediatrics including external contracts maintenance, accounts receivable and reporting. This position is responsible for account management for all grants awarded by the Children's Miracle Network, a national fundraising program that provides monies to children's hospitals for research and education. In addition to CMN, this position will manage additional grants within the department from a variety of funding sources. Additional responsibilities are to design and prepare timely financial and billing reports, and special reports as needed. This position requires in-depth knowledge of University, Campus and UCDHS fiscal and accounting policies, procedures, practices and organization. - Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Experience with accounting, purchasing, accounts receivable and business management practices and procedures.
- Demonstrated experience using fundamental business management and accounting principles and standards of practice in a Univeristy academic department setting to operate with integrity, accuracy, and effectiveness.
- Knowledge and experience in budget preparation, analysis and forecasting with ability to control complex budgets and recognize potential problems.
- Demonstrated experience to maintain confidential records and disclose information legally and appropriately.
- Demonstrated analytical skills to analyze the Department's billing and collections activities. Ability to create billing and collections reports that track trends and identify problem areas.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and University accounting policies and procedures. Knowledge of federal, state and other private grant budgeting process, financial reporting requirements and policies regarding use of funds.
- Knowledge of cost allocation methods.
- Knowledge of federal and private grant budgeting, financial reporting and policies regarding use of grant funds.
- Strong combination of analytical, technical, financial, human resources, and leadership skills, plus demonstrated excellent organizational skills and the willingness to assume responsibility readily, work independently with minimal direction, to plan, coordinate, direct and perform numerous/various tasks simultaneously and efficiently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary to communicate technical information and non-technical information clearly, concisely, and effectively to an audience, which may include UCDHS physicians, state and/or county physicians, UCDHS professional and non-professional staff, and other government agencies.
- Ability to provide and receive constructive criticism and feedback.
- Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions that may include, but are not limited to, heavy workload, conflicting priorities, and frequent interruptions, and short deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain good rapport with students, staff, faculty and co-workers. Ability to represent the Department in a professional manner.
- Ability to plan, anticipate operational needs, forecast deadlines, set objectives/goals, coordinate/delegate work assignments, facilitate program needs
- Ability to effectively and efficiently work independently in an organized and self-directed manner. Ability to readily adapt to change. Ability to analyze problems, make decisions, initiate resolution for effective management of the financial administrative unit in the Department.
- Ability to analyze financial data and computer reports in order to draw meaningful conclusions. Ability to solve problems rapidly and to expedite jobs to accommodate research needs. Work with changing priorities and a demanding workload. Use independent judgment to make logical decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience using an automated financial system (Aggie Enterprise, UC Path, Cognos, Aggie Expense) effectively to manage various funding streams in the role of Account Manager.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with UC or UCD: accounting, purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, personnel, equipment inventory and business management practices and procedures.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to run Tableau reports and use Aggie Enterprise-Planning.
- Knowledge of strategic planning concepts to assess internal and external environments, trends and issues, establish the organizational vision, direction and goals, and the resources needed to achieve those goals.
