Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Supervisor, Central Sterile - Full Time, Evenings - Sterile Processing Department - Full-Time - Mond.

In this role, the successful candidate Responsible for the coordination and oversight of all Central Sterile department functions during the assigned shift, including decontamination, sterilization, cleaning, and assembly of instruments, equipment, and Crash Carts. Ensures adherence to infection control practices, organizational policies, and industry standards, including those set by The Joint Commission and the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI). Exercises independent judgment in directing departmental workflow, assigning tasks, and coordinating surgical instruments and equipment needs between the Central Sterile department and procedural areas. Directly supervises Central Service Technicians, including responsibilities for scheduling, training, and performance oversight.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises Central Service Technicians, including responsibility for hiring, training, performance evaluations, scheduling, and discipline in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment in overseeing the daily operations of the Central Sterile department to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently and in compliance with regulatory and hospital standards.
  • Acts as the liaison between the Operating Room (OR) and other clinical departments, ensuring clear communication and the timely completion of all priority trays in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Oversees the preparation, processing, and availability of loaner trays and equipment for scheduled surgical cases, resolving issues as they arise.
  • Responsible for the accurate identification, functionality, and preparation of surgical instruments and equipment across all hospital services.
  • Supervises the operation and maintenance of decontamination and sterilization equipment. Troubleshoots malfunctions, initiates service requests, and ensures equipment is promptly returned to service following established protocols.
  • Accepts full responsibility for the Central Sterile department during assigned shifts, making independent decisions related to workflow management, resource allocation, and staff supervision.
  • Develops and manages staff schedules, assigns work, and communicates open or pending issues to the subsequent supervisor or lead. Coordinates in-service education, orientation, and ongoing training of staff.
  • Oversees the fulfillment, distribution, and restocking of Crash Carts to ensure availability and readiness.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with all biological monitoring of sterilizers as required by regulatory agencies and hospital standards. Reviews and maintains sterilization and biological monitoring records daily.
  • Reviews OR and procedural area schedules to ensure required trays are prepared and available, adjusting departmental workflow as necessary to meet clinical needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelors Degree Required.Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST- HSPA) OR certification from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD). Minimum 3 years Central Service experience. Basic knowledge of aseptic techniques and procedures. Basic knowledge of sterilization techniques and procedures. Basic knowledge of infection control guidelines and requirements. Demonstrated knowledge of surgical instruments and equipment. Exercises responsible judgment to provide necessary Instruments and equipment for patient care. Familiarity with a variety of surgical services, including but not limited to: dental, optometry/ophthalmology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, ENT, GYN, cardiology, dermatology, urology, podiatry, and general surgery..

Required Licenses: Sterile Proc & Dist-Cert CBSPD, Central Sterile tech (HSPA)
