In this role, the successful candidate Accurately review, obtain, and record all pertinent patient demographic, insurance, and financial information, and provide and explain necessary information to patients, to facilitate their safe, efficient, and sensitive entry to care, in compliance with applicable standards, while ensuring accurate and thorough data are available for subsequent use in each patient encounter. Job Responsibilities:
- Obtains insurance clearance for treatments and procedures and records in appropriate system: completes insurance verification; obtains, verifies, or documents pre-authorizations; and identifies out of pocket liability.
- Associates Degree plus 3 years experiences in hospital admissions or medical records or patient accounts or in related field. Epic experience is a plus.
- To qualify you must have a High School Diploma and 3 years experience in patient accounts or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong knowledge of Front-end hospital registration and/or practice operations is a must. Knowledge of insurance companies verification and benefit tools including web sites, etc. Ability to compose and edit logical, detailed, comprehensive and grammatically correct correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of personnel including patients, families, physicians and staff. Knowledge of medical terminology. Experience and competency with varied computer hardware and software, including registration and billing systems, word processing, spreadsheet, database, scheduling, communications. Training on appropriate systems will be provided. Ability to handle matters of highly confidential and sensitive nature. Ability to recognize and identify problems, recognize implications and propose alternative solutions. Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner. Skill in working independently and in following through on assignments with minimal direction.

- Provides, explains, and processes all required forms, signatures, and information, ensuring patients receive all required information, and understand what they are signing. Documents any issues, appropriate statuses, and all attempts to complete the work, including reasons when work is not yet complete
- Uses specific interview techniques to carefully identify and document the diversity of the patients, including cultural, spiritual/religious, gender identity, mobility, language, communication, age-specific, family-specific, and any other concerns/needs.
- Proactively works with management to identify root causes and solutions when discrepancies in data or processes are found.
- Uses interviews, electronic records, and other sources to ensure current, accurate and complete demographic and financial data are in the patient record. Understands registration and financial terminology used in registration. Reviews data to identify incomplete, inconsistent, or inaccurate information. Understands when and how to update patient information and how the accuracy of data about the patient and related parties affects clinical, financial and administrative users of the data, including impacts on patient safety and Medical Center revenue.
- Verifies patient identity and resolves common issues with verification, documentation, or correction of patient identifiers.
- Collects and applies payments for self-pay, deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance into the appropriate system(s), and documents accounts as necessary.
- Creates estimated out of pocket liability forms when necessary and timely communicates liability with patient in an effective manner.
