Job Summary:

The PLC Specialist is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and programming programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and associated components to ensure optimal operation of our automated machinery. This role is critical to maintaining production efficiency and equipment reliability. Successful bidder will be accountable for health, safety and environmental aspects related to this position. Responsible for serving as primary contact for Automation/PLC Support as part of the Maintenance Department Equipment Uptime Help Chain.

Required Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; associate's degree preferred.
  • Lead yourself and other team members in Safety.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, PLC programming, and automated machinery. Proficiency in programming/navigating and troubleshooting PLC control systems is a must.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge base relative to all technical aspects (i.e., Electrical, Mechanical, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Combustion).
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLC-5, SLC-500, & ControLogix.
  • Familiarity with the following industrial control communication protocols: ControlNet, Ethernet, DH+, Remote I/O.
  • Interpretation of Electrical Schematics and Blueprints.
  • Knowledge of various electrical meters (i.e., Multimeter, Megger, Amp Clamp, Analog Process Meter).
  • Experience in VFDs and Servos.
  • Electrical Circuit Diagnostics.
  • Familiarity with trending software such as IBA or Ignition.
  • Willingness to assist with maintenance support on off-shifts.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Inspection & Testing: Perform regular visual inspections and tests on machinery and equipment to identify issues and ensure proper functionality.
  • Installation & Repair: Install, start-up, and maintenance of plant/facility electrical equipment and control systems, including transformers, wiring, switches, contactors, motors & drives, and other electrical apparatus essential to machinery operations. Replace damaged electronic devices and cables.
  • Programming: Program and configure automated machinery using PLCs, including Siemens and Allen Bradley drives. Modify existing programs as necessary to enhance equipment performance, improve overall throughput and reliability, with a focus on the safety of our employees and equipment.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical malfunctions, faulty electronic devices, faulty analog signals, circuits, and devices (4-20ma & 0-10vDC), conducting tests to verify repairs and ensure proper operation. Troubleshoot various electrical voltages (i.e. 24vDC, 120vAC, 277vAC, 480vAC). Diagnose failed communication networks. (i.e. ControlNet, Ethernet IP, DH+, Remote I/O).
  • Wiring Layout & Installation: Plan and implement wiring layouts, install wiring in relation to electrical schematics, conduit, and electrical apparatus in accordance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Engineering and Design: Design control system upgrades of obsolete components. Create electrical drawings for new equipment. Work with Plant Management and Vendors in design and development of new equipment, processes, etc.
