Chair of Pathology at Salem Hospital Salem, Massachusetts (USA). Salem Hospital (SH) is seeking a Board Certified Pathologist with an MD or DO degree, a minimum of 10 years of clinical experience and exceptional leadership skills to serve as the Chair of the Department of Pathology. SH is a 371-bed community hospital located north of Boston in the City of Salem, Massachusetts. It is the largest health care provider on the Massachusetts North Shore, offering exceptional medical and surgical care, innovative advances and a deep-rooted commitment to the community. SH is a proud member of the Mass General Brigham (MGB) integrated health care system, which was founded by Mass General Hospital and Brigham and Women's. Position Overview The Chair of Pathology will oversee clinical, administrative, and educational responsibilities for all pathology services at SH. Reporting to the President/COO, the Chair will ensure the delivery of state-of-the-art pathology services while fostering a collaborative environment. The Department of Pathology at SH includes seven on-site pathologists responsible for frozen section and fine needle aspiration (FNA) rapid on-site evaluation. The team manages an annual volume of 28,000 surgical cases and 25,000 cytology cases (20,000 GYN and 5,000 non-GYN), along with 2.3 million billable tests across Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Blood Bank services, and performs a total of 4,800 transfusions each year. Key Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong collaborative abilities and a visionary approach to leading the department. They should be a strong advocate for the pathology team, possess innovative thinking to integrate successful practices from community settings, and maintain flexibility in addressing the evolving needs of system integration. Candidates must have a current MA licensure or be eligible for a MA Medical license without restriction. The Chair of Pathology may be able to pursue an academic appointment consistent with the chair's qualifications.
