Under the direct supervision of the Chief Radiation Therapist, the Clinical Assistant is responsible for direct care provided to radiation oncology patients and for contributing to efficient operations in the patient care environment specifically related to simulation procedures. Direct patient care activities include but are not limited to screening patients; placing peripheral Intra-venous catheters and obtaining blood samples; giving oral contrast; and verbally reviewing changing instructions. Indirect patient care activities include those that support clinic operations such as verifying pre-procedure medical records, preparing patient education materials, transporting patients, and coordinating and monitoring the environment of care
Essential Functions Participates in the gathering of data that contributes to the assessment, planning, and preparation of radiotherapy simulation procedures. -Participates in team-based care and patient education initiatives to support health and wellness of patients in conjunction with Radiation Therapists, Nurses, Physicians, and Physicists. -Guide patients through the process of radiation oncology simulation, including coordinating patient check-in within hospital EMR and verbally screening patients for MRI and IV contrast procedures. -Proficiency in placing peripheral Intra-venous catheters and obtaining blood samples. -Aides in the cleaning of radiation oncology equipment. -Receive patient at arrival, verify and obtain all necessary information, and ensure forms are completed.
