Description

GAI is seeking a college student in their junior or senior year enrolled in an Engineering Program, Geology Program, or Technical Geo-Science Program to work in our Pennsylvania Geotechnical Group. This position will be based out of our Pittsburgh (Homestead), Pennsylvania office.

Job Duties

Perform engineering/geology assignments involving:



  • Support Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), Site Characterizations, and Remedial Investigations in accordance with the most recent ASTM standards and states' voluntary remediation program.
  • Support interpreting subsurface investigations and geologic site characterization for a variety of facilities.
  • Support Field investigations (e.g., monitoring and sampling) and remediation activities involving domestic travel may be.
  • Perform earthwork construction observation and inspection. The individual will be responsible for interpreting specifications and construction drawings, evaluating site conditions based on construction excavations, monitoring and reporting on construction activities, and performing field testing of soils.


  • Prepare boring logs and geologic cross sections; assist with interpreting and summarizing lab data and supporting preparation of multi-media Sampling Plans/Quality Assurance Plans, Health and Safety Plans, Site Characterization Reports, Remedial Investigation Reports, and Final Reports in accordance with state voluntary remediation and brownfield.


Additional Requirements



  • The candidate will be expected to traverse steep terrain and lift/carry/move up to 50 lbs.
  • The candidate must have a valid driver's license

  • Acquires basic knowledge and develops basic skills through mentored experience.
  • Applies learned knowledge and skills to perform assigned tasks. Performs routine technical work which does not require previous experience.
  • Understands and complies with ethical codes.

Education



  • In the process of completing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Program or Geology Program, or Technical Geo-Science Program


Certification/Licensure



  • Driver's License


Technical Responsibilities



  • Collect data and gather information or documents.
  • Participate in field investigations and coordinate with laboratory for testing.
  • Perform basic computations or analysis.
  • Assist with the preparation of engineering deliverables.
  • Observe construction activities.


Project and Task Management



  • Responsible for personal task management and adherence to deadlines and scope.
  • No managerial responsibilities at this level.


Management Responsibility



  • Receive close supervision on all aspects of assignments.
  • Attain mentored experience from an experienced engineer or geologist.


Communication Skills



  • Possess basic oral and written communication skills.
  • Identify and acknowledge principles of teamwork and leadership.
  • Interact primarily with internal project team members.

Bachelors of Engineering (preferred)
Experience
0 - 2 years: Currently pursuing bachelor's or master's degree in engineering (required)
