Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (COM) has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, College of Medicine's faculty are transforming the world of medicine every day.

The University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery Translational Neurotrauma Laboratory, is seeking an entry level Lab Associate with a science background in neuroscience and/or animal science. The incumbent will participate in bench science research projects in the area of traumatic brain injury and spreading depolarizations. They will primarily provide animal and surgical support for the needs of the laboratory and administer the daily operational policies of the laboratories.

Essential Functions

  • Assist faculty on project feasibility and design.
  • Supervise, train, assist and/or mentor students using laboratory facilities.
  • Administer safety programs,
  • Maintain regulatory documentation and assist with preparing IACUC submissions as needed.
  • Liaison with laboratory staff, university departments, ancillary departments, and research collaborators
  • Perform related duties based on laboratory need including performing surgeries, animal care, assisting with experiments, and recording data according to research protocols.
  • Interpret data and assist in judging validity of data. May perform statistical and graphical analysis of data and assist with dissemination of laboratory findings

Required Education

  • Associate's Degree.
  • Three (3) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience

One (1) year of experience in an area of technical specialty.

Additional Qualifications Considered

Rodent animal handling experience is ideal.

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
