Performs academic counseling or training at the individual level. May supervise counselors or other employees. Performance is based on individual counseling effectiveness and overall program results obtained.

Major/Essential Functions

Provides short-term, academic and personal counseling to students with disabilities, including discussing academic progress, tutoring support, study skills, time management, and organization strategies, as well as other areas of skills or concern that might affect the student's academic progress. Sets clear work objectives and goals and creates a student academic growth plan for each student to reach these goals. Collaborates with all Student Disability Services staff and maintains a close working relationship with all university departments that offer assistance on individual student cases.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and two years experience in related area. Additional education in a related area may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Higher Education, Psychology, Counseling, or other related field of study directly related to assigned work. One year of college student counseling experience. Additional education in related area may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Occasional Duties

Assigns students to tutors and manages the tutor-match relationship, including providing quality support and guidance to tutors, communicating any issues and concerns to supervisory staff, and actively problem-solving any tutoring issues that may affect tutoring services or tutor development
Communicates and collaborates with parents, guardians, and students, as permitted, about student academic progress and other information that may affect the student's academic progress and communicates concerns or issues immediately.
Maintains confidentiality of student records and excellent documentation, including documenting each weekly meeting, updates from tutors, emails, phone calls, and other contacts as they relate to the student's academic progress and participation in the TECHniques Center. Notifies relevant Student Disability Services staff of any student concerns or issues. Exhibits knowledge and implementation of FERPA guidelines.
Assists in the tutor recruitment, interviewing, and hiring process and communicates course needs and concerns to appropriate staff to ensure quality tutoring services. Participates in the planning and implementation of tutor training each semester, including assisting with preparations, preparing and presenting training sessions, and participating in the evaluation process. Engages in tutor development by providing guidance, suggestions, and feedback to tutors on how to improve tutoring skills, assist students, maintain policy adherence, and develop professionally. Collaborates with supervisory staff to implement tutor development suggestions.
Performs related work and other duties as assigned by TECHniques Center and Student Disability Services supervisory staff, including, but not limited to, participating in orientations, move-in days, and other special events as requested and representing Student Disability Services and the TECHniques Center on campus committees and collaborations.
Engages in professional development by attending conferences, campus training meetings, and webinars and by submitting annual national conference proposals, as permitted and dictated by supervisory staff. Shares knowledge and skills gained at all trainings and conferences with other staff to improve staff knowledge and skills.

Pay Statement
